“Virus Eater” – Spider Street Show #24

Artist Statement
Are we so afraid of viruses that we have lost so many important things?
In the process of evolution, human beings have acquired various functions such as the immune system and placenta by taking in and utilizing the virus. The proof remains in the DNA as EVE (Endogenous Viral Element). In other words, for animals, a virus is not only an infectious agent, but also an entity that promotes evolution.
Since ancient times we have lived with viruses according to the providence of nature. Up until now and from now on.

我々はウイルスを恐れるあまり、多くの大切なものを失っていないだろうか？
人類は進化の過程で、ウイルスを取り込み利用することで、免疫系や胎盤などの様々な機能を獲得してきた。その証は、EVE(内在性ウイルス配列)としてDNAの中に残っている。つまり動物にとってウイルスとは、単に感染性病原体というだけではなく、進化を促す存在でもあるのだ。
昔から我々は自然の摂理に従って、ウイルスと共に生きてきた。今までも、これからも。
Profile
Takeshi Spider/ Hamanaka is a Nontemporary Artist from Kanagawa, Japan. Takeshi created the first recycled artwork by using disposable plastic bottles in 2008. Since then, he’s been holding “Spider Street Show” with plastic bottle artworks around the world.
略歴
タケシ・スパイダー/ ハマナカは、神奈川県出身の非現代アーティストである。２００８年に使用済みペットボトルを利用した、最初のリサイクル作品を制作。それ以降ペットボトル作品を用いて、世界各地でスパイダーストリートショーを開催している。
