Another entry in the British National Theatre's tradition of adapting the most unlikely candidates in English fiction into full blown plays, Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime impressed audiences in 2012 and will no doubt impress them still should they crop up at Beijing's Inside-Out Theatre this Saturday afternoon. Adapted from Mark Haddon's novel about a teenage math whiz with some behavioral "problems" going to work on the murder of the neighbor's dog with a pitchfork. The execution is nowhere near as batty as the premise, but it is graceful and insightful, with the curiosity of the incident deriving from the sense that this senseless violence may have something to do with our hero's own troubles. This is broadcast from the National Theatre's archive straight into Beijing's Inside-Out Theatre this Saturday, September 26.
