A low pressure system and rain front bring rain clouds to western Japan along the coast of the Sea of Japan. The Japan Meteorological Agency says heavy rains will hit a wide area from the southwestern Kyushu region to the Tohoku region in the northeast. The agency also forecasts strong winds and stormy weather for these regions. Up to 250 millimeters of rain is predicted in the Tokai region, 200 millimeters in Shikoku and 180 millimeters in southern Kyushu, Kinki and Kanto-koshin during the 24-hour period until Wednesday noon. During the same period, up to 150 millimeters of rain is expected in northern Kyushu, 130 millimeters in Hokuriku, 120 millimeters in Amami, and 100 millimeters in the Chugoku and Tohoku regions. During the 24-hour period until Thursday noon, Amami, southern Kyushu and the Izu Islands are likely to receive up to 100 millimeters of rain. Forecasters warn of possible landslides, flooding in low-lying areas and swollen rivers.
