『日本沈没ー希望のひとー』は「地球環境の危機」を大きなテーマの一つとしている。本作のメインキャストのひとりである杏と、国際連合の機関の中で環境問題、特に危機的な状況にあると言われる地球温暖化とそれによって引き起こされる気候変動への対策で主導的な役割を果たす国連環境計画(UNEP)のインガー・アンダーセン事務局長のスペシャル対談が実現した。

ドラマが描くフィクションの世界をきっかけに、現実の世界が抱える課題への強いメッセージが込められた内容となっている。
“Japan Sinks: People of Hope” is a Japanese drama series produced by TBS, available on Netflix. Since one of the main themes of the drama is “global environment crisis”, a special conversation was held between Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), and Anne Watanabe, who plays the role of a journalist in the drama.
In the interview, Andersen encourages the viewers “The future is in your hands. I hope viewers get inspired by this drama and take some actions”.
