ローラのお母さんの誕生日にアガサ・クリスティの家へ旅行

just awake today is my mother’s birthday and um well we’re going to have a nice day out and we all thought you might like to come along with us it is a trip to the Agatha Christie house where she used to live and uh yeah and a meal out so mom’s due here at 9 we did have a very long day yesterday with Aby’s gig which was all day um and there will be possibly a video with some clips of that coming out separately but we’re going to keep this one birthday and Agatha Christie continue straight then slide right [Music] heat heat heat heat [Music] hey [Music] hey hey heat heat [Music] [Music] heat heat heat heat [Music] [Music] [Music] heat heat heat heat n [Music] make meat [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] yeah that was beautiful yeah beautiful bees love it so when you walk in you’ve got a plant shop which um mother’s already decided to buy something a lovely old bookshop that you’ve just seen there’s a cafe here obviously toilets the gift shop we’ll look at later yeah very nice but mother’s decided we’re going around the house first and everywhere you look it’s just beautiful i mean look look i mean I kind of wish this was my house and my garden who wouldn’t let’s see where we need to go we want to really look at everything if we can i think we’re going this way first um to the house and then there’s a boat house down by the river which I would quite like to look at and this here look at all the bees look at all the bees can you see
busy busy everywhere loads of them a [Music] So not far down this path and I have to say we have been kind of having some little wild strawberries on the way down why not i see a house so uh this is my new house mom’s very happy you can probably hear her she’s having a lovely time my goodness me look at this this is quite some house isn’t it greenway’s plants of the month oh how lovely i can’t say half of these though and here they are in the little bottles wonder what’s down here yeah see I’m the one that always wants to go and see what’s probably not accessible there’s a sign there that says bat roost interesting anyway we need to find the door [Music] [Applause] [Music] so we’ve got a project here restoring a rockery this is one hell of a rockery isn’t it trying to restore it using smaller alpine plants and subtropical plants for effect in the way they used to have it there’s some big rocks for a rockery aren’t they Cath and some small ones too i’m guessing
Oh I was going to say I thought mom might be at the entrance to the house but she’s
she’s in a deck chair
how lovely why not oh she looks very comfortable obviously quite busy around here this is where what people have come to see oh yes this is very me [Music] there’s the river dart leads to top mess i think that way not sure there’s the deck chairs that mom just mentioned there’s the main entrance heat heat [Music] so unfortunately we weren’t allowed to video in the house so consequently there are going to be a lot of photos the house actually was bought in 1943 and was a holiday home it cost them £6,000 they used it during the summer months and at Christmas you will see a lot of collections within the photos they like collecting in fact Agatha Christiey’s husband was That’s a good photo agatha Christiey’s husband was an archaeologist they collected many many things of which you will see in the photo eyes yep that was a mobile phone the first one it weighed 3 and 12 kg had 1 hour charge and then you saw a clock there which I I took quite a liking to the clocks all the rooms were wonderfully furnished as you can see here this is the dining room where they had their Christmases and apparently Agatha Christie was very partial to lobster katherine’s taking lots of photos here we were quite taken by this curved door cuz that’s not something you see very often is it here’s one of her collections what is it tumbridge wire possibly
yeah lots of pictures and wall hangings another collection coming up here
more boxes they actually collected from all over the world she spent a lot of time traveling [Music] this is the living room so this is one angle of the living room that was one of the living rooms in fact oh there’s me reading the tour book you get given to mom gives you uh some information on each room they had a lot of these cupboards great for storage and my goodness they filled them
that was the kitchen
yes here’s an example of the tour book and information everywhere so this is the list of what they would collect toys
i love the toys more toys that was actually a tuda freeze above the fireplace living room with games in front of the fire i think that was more their formal living room it had a grand piano in it it did which you could play if you asked permission family photographs [Music] there’s the piano Kath just mentioned i wonder who played the piano h they put teasels on the seats as a as a way of saying don’t sit here lovely views [Music] part of a collection so there are stamp collections there they like collecting clocks
pocket watches lots of them yeah as you can see there i think there were pill pots as well weren’t there that’s just a view from the top of the stairs love the architecture [Music] ah a first edition signed and then copies of all of her books right there i thought that was impressive i’m guessing that’s her typewriter that she used to use to write the books this was the study also known as the fax room [Music] ah this was in the bedroom
yeah it was just really like that picture
okay so her wardrobe you can’t go in the wardrobe but you can you can look through i think they actually both had walk-in wardrobes yeah you were quite taken by this ornament here weren’t you because two pictures of it
yeah this dresser uh cost more to bring home than it did to buy because it’s very fragile
that was actually all inlaid with mother of pearl yeah
like a mosaic [Music] i mean it’s eclectic isn’t it the collection
it is
because it came from all over the world [Music] this was
I’m guessing this was her dog wasn’t it
and this was all under the stairs things that would have been taken outside the bells yeah servants bells
yeah and the very long corridor that had um big chunky flag stone floor
this is the kitchen this is me and mom going into the kitchen there are actually quite a few things as well within the kitchen that some people might still recognize they obviously like their pottery [Music] this is the information page for the kitchen apparently they had a parrot they used to keep on the window sill in the kitchen lots and lots and lots and lots of china [Applause] we’re doubling up now
yeah we both took photos didn’t we another view of the stairs from actually from the front door i think mom liked it i
was just gobsmack i was blown away by it actually
they really were into their collectibles weren’t they
they collected so much i did not realize that Agatha’s husband and Agatha went around the world collecting so many items and their houses i mean I thought we had a lot of stuff but they have the storage
nothing as nice as that
no no no no so um on occasions it did get a little bit busy but that’s okay there’s so much to learn and I now have a new love for grandfather clocks okay
we’re going to get a coffee before we head to the river [Music] so we’re taking the walk down to the boat house down by the river which I’m quite looking forward to but I do love tree canopies look at this the color on the screen is lovely as well how lovely so I’m not sure how far it is but we’ll find it every now and then you get a glimpse of the river to the right will we see it now no [Music] we’ve come to a fork in the road path so we have bird pond top garden left the boat house is right so I guess we’re going right she trolls down she trolls down [Music] this should be fun [Music] oh that’s just amazing oh how wonderful [Music] might have a cannon board for long [Music] heat heat [Music] okay we are at the boat house i’m just going to step down hopefully we big steps probably very wobbly viewing now then there we go [Music] [Music] all [Music] right I’m [Music] Heat heat n [Music] okay [Music] this one is [Music] Sorry [Music] [Music] heat heat [Music] heat heat [Music] [Applause] [Music] i both want [Music] the smell is white [Music] see there it’s a loudspeaker [Music] so we’ve done a fair bit of walking fair bit of filming often there’s quite a few people around so you won’t get to see everything necessarily but this is just another angle of the house that we hadn’t seen it’s lovely isn’t it it is lovely we’re heading towards the garden uh there’s mom and Kath we’ve been admiring all the plants and the trees and the nature i mean that that that moth what’s it called dragon Cath knows anyway that moth amazing never seen anything like that before and every other step you see more plants that are just like ooh like these and these and then you go around the corner and you find something surprising like this how wonderful [Music] [Music] tomatoes cabbages looks like the Looks like the caterpillar caterpillars are enjoying cabbages celery is that a cherry anybody yeah I think I think that’s a cherry tree by the looks of it rebar we We’re both doing a running commentary here
aren’t we
