Disaster struck in the remote highlands of Yunnan Province, China, as a powerful landslide triggered by relentless rain led to catastrophic flooding in Gongshan Dulong and Nu Autonomous County. In the early morning darkness, entire hillsides collapsed, sending a deadly mix of mud, rock, and debris crashing into villages below.
As rivers swelled beyond their limits, Dongjiang Township was hit by a second wave of destruction—flash floods that swept through homes, roads, and farmland. Sirens wailed through the mountain valleys. More than 100 emergency responders—including police, border guards, and firefighters—raced door to door to save lives.
By dawn, over 500 people had been safely evacuated, many escaping with only the clothes they wore. This is the story of a peaceful village transformed into a disaster zone—by both earth and water.
