Red Cross urging people to give blood amid national emergency shortage
it can save someone’s life as the nation faces an emergent blood shortage donor centers across the state are urging people to help right now we have more than a thousand appointments in the state of made over the next two weeks that are empty no one is signed up to give blood according to the executive director of the northern and Eastern main Red Cross chapter over the last month blood reserves have been down 25% and last month 11% of State donors did not show up for appointments the beautiful summer everyone is out and about um doing great things with their family and friends but we’d like to remind folks that your family and friends if they need blood it’s got to be on the Shelf the Red Cross also helps Supply blood to 24 Main hospitals the Red Cross is is our Lifeline we really um rely on them officials from St Joseph Hospital in Bangor say donations from local Blood Centers are vital to their operations it really does make a huge difference for the for our hospitals and and for um our local patients I mean people have uh loved ones who get admitted to the hospital and might need a transfusion um and we need to have that available the Red Cross says in Maine alone they need to collect 152 pints daily to meet patient demand it’s very simple it’s an easy thing to do and it and it’s just a good thing to do you know you’re going to help save somebody’s life leave this wrap on for at least an hour okay sure it doesn’t take long to sign up and do it it makes you feel good help other people any anyone interested in donating can visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment in Bangor I’m Grace Blanchard for ABC7 in Fox 22 News
