Choreographer Smaïl Kanouté’s piece presents the extraordinary life of YASUKE KUROSAN, known as the only Black samurai in the history of Japan – a legendary figure from the 16th century, whose dual identity is the key to Kanouté’s celebratory, hybrid choreography, which draws on elements of martial arts, African warrior dances and contemporary street dance.

“YASUKE KUROSAN” by Smaïl Kanouté from March 10 to 16, 2022 at the MC93 – Maison de la Culture de Seine-Saint-Denis (Bobigny).
