A 24-ton full-scale version of the RX-78-2 Gundam robot has undergone a test trial at the Gundam Factory in Yokohama near Tokyo, dazzling fans of the popular anime series around the world.

The Gundam can be seen on Saturday at its resting point at the Gundam factory.

“There have been two full-scale Gundams so far. This is the third one, but it’s the best Gundam ever, so I would like people all over the world to come and see it.” Said Taka, a Gundam fan who came to catch a glimpse of the robot.

The giant robot is based on the RX-78-2 Gundam from the classic anime series “Mobile Suit Gundam,” a popular TV series from the late 1970s. The monstrous machine has been under construction since 2014,, and is reportedly built of both steel and carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. It stands at a height of 18 meters (60 feet) and weighs 21,772 kilograms (24 tons).

The opening of the attraction was originally planned to be in October 2020 but has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
