豪華フェリーの高級和室18時間船旅が、想像を超えてきた…

Hi, I’m Yuka! So today kicks off my mid-winter Hokkaido trip, and I’ve made my way to a certain place. If you’re sharp, you might already know where this is… Yep, the Oarai Ferry Terminal in Ibaraki Prefecture. I’m heading to Hokkaido on the Sunflower Sapporo ferry! It kinda feels taller than the last time I rode it. Or… maybe wider? Hey, not talking trash, okay? It’s 60 minutes before departure now, so first, I’m heading to the counter to get my boarding pass. I’m not loading a car today, so the process is surprisingly simple. You’re Ms. Yuka Suzuki, correct? Today, no vehicle, one guest in a Superior Japanese-style room. Is that correct? Boarding has already begun, so once I hand you your ticket, please board via the east boarding passage on the second floor. Here are your receipt and boarding ticket. Boarding pass secured! It’s been a while, Sunflower. My heart’s all fluttery and excited. A Christmas photo spot! A bit of a high hurdle for a solo traveler… but since I’m in Ibaraki… I’ll bravely walk the thorny path. Christmas tree pose! *Doing this alone is starting to feel sad* If I keep fooling around, the ferry might leave without me, so I hurry to the boarding gate. Even though it’s been six months since my last ride, it somehow feels like coming back home. Maybe I’ll say “I’m home” when I board. *The path to the boarding gate is surprisingly intense* Oh no… it’s SO cold… If it’s this cold in Ibaraki, Hokkaido is gonna be… Just imagining it makes my whole body feel frozen solid. I can see Sapporo’s side profile now. I’m home. Please don’t rock today, okay? (begging) You’ll need your boarding pass here, so make sure you have it ready. I’m finally boarding the ferry! The moment of truth… Sunflower, it’s been a while. The vibe really is just so nice. Even before reaching Hokkaido, the snow already has me hyped. First, I want to head to my room for tonight, and since the Superior Japanese-style rooms are on the 6th floor, I’ll head up one floor. The Superior Japanese-style room I’ve been dying to see. I was so excited last night… I only slept during the day and night. This is room 6S41, where I’ll be staying tonight. You scan the boarding pass QR code to unlock it at sea. So… what kind of room is waiting for me? Wow!! This is INSANE. Way beyond my expectations. Look at this beautiful Japanese-style room. This is amazing… You pull out the foldable cushions, and turn them into a futon mattress. There’s even a TV mounted on the wall. Amenities-wise, there’s one hair dryer, and one bath set. This is what’s inside. They’ve also got slippers ready for you. And you don’t even need to go buy tea, there’s a full tea set for a little tea party. There’s even a fridge big enough to chill like 10 cans of beer. Then I spot a mysterious door in the corner. I nervously peek inside, and… no way, there’s a sink AND a shower in there. *I’ve never used the toilet in my life* The shower isn’t huge, but just having one is a blessing. I couldn’t help breaking into a little happy dance. Alright, now for the main event. Let’s slide open the shoji screens by the window. I wonder what kind of view we’ll get? Even after opening them, it’s pitch black and I can’t see a thing. The view will have to wait until tomorrow afternoon. The Superior Japanese-style room is honestly amazing, but compared to other rooms, it’s pretty pricey… It cost $190 for one adult. It’s so expensive I’m starting to feel sick… Oh! I just found a lifesaving item right here. I’ll use this if I feel like throwing up. *“Vomit bag” is such a brutally honest name, I can’t* There aren’t that many passengers today, so I can enjoy a walk around feeling like it’s all private. Looks like I won’t need to activate my head-on-a-swivel mode either. The Oarai–Tomakomai route has apparently just celebrated its 40th anniversary. And fun fact, this channel just hit its 3rd anniversary this month too. I’ll do my best to make it to 40 years as well. Forty years from now… I’ll be 18, right? My only friend onboard. I came to say hi to the bear working in the kids’ area. Looks like seasickness is hitting him pretty hard today too. There’s a good variety of vending machines, so I don’t think I’ll struggle to find drinks. Uh-oh… this is bad… For someone who’s avoiding alcohol, this is way too tempting… I need to stay away from booze. There’s about 15 minutes left until departure, so I’m taking a break in the massage chair. Sadly, this thing isn’t free. I prayed for it to work for free… but yeah, that didn’t work at all. Guess I’ll quietly superchat it $1.35. *It’s $1.35 for 12 minutes, *so basically a $6.70/hour massage chair (strong)* This vessel is now preparing for departure, and will soon set sail for Tomakomai Port. During today’s voyage, sea conditions along the northern part of the route will have strong northerly winds, with slightly higher waves expected. The ship may rock at times. While moving around the ship during the voyage, especially in the large public bath and outdoor decks, please watch your step carefully. Our crew will do their utmost to ensure a safe voyage. Please relax and enjoy your time onboard until arrival at Tomakomai Port. Thank you very much for choosing Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Sunflower today. With just 5 minutes left until departure, I’m heading up to the observation deck. Off I go. 19:45 — the ferry slowly started moving. We’re scheduled to arrive in Tomakomai at 13:30 tomorrow, so this will be about an 18-hour journey. If it starts snowing while I’m on the ferry, that’d be perfect. Winter Hokkaido is getting me excited already. After watching the departure, of course it’s time for the onboard buffet. Looks like the ticket machine got a glow-up. *It’s gotten so fancy while I wasn’t looking… (proud parent vibes)* Last order is at 20:15, so we’ve only got 20 minutes left, I’ll be speed-eating like my life depends on it. Since it opens an hour before departure, if you’re worried about seasickness, I definitely recommend eating early. I’ve secured my dinner from the buffet. Alright, let’s eat! *Huh?!* Refueling in progress. No… um… this isn’t what it looks like. It’s my first time in a Superior private room, so I decided to stop being so strict about staying sober. Garlic-roasted chicken drumettes. You just know these are good before even taking a bite. It’s chicken, but way too good… This is the best dinner ever. The ship has started rocking quite a bit, and now I’m getting worried about seasickness. So I’m going with the “sleep while nicely tipsy” strategy, and for now… I’m drinking. *Do you really think adding a pun makes it okay to drink?* This is chige ramen, which they didn’t have last time I was onboard. So… how does it taste? Spicy and delicious. If you only saw this part, it’s basically an izakaya. It wouldn’t even be weird if someone next to me was drinking hoppy. *Honestly, doing a cheap drink session on a ferry sounds kinda fun* For dessert, I’m going with a mandarin orange. Winter just hits different with mikan. *That “watch year-end TV under a kotatsu and be lazy” season* Thanks for the meal. I ate so much my fullness meter is completely maxed out. Three hours have passed since boarding, and my seasickness has gotten pretty bad. Today is one of *those* days… I’ll take some motion sickness meds for now, and try to nap for about 30 minutes. I was only supposed to nap for 30 minutes, but I ended up sleeping HARD. It’s now past midnight — 12:55 AM. Yeah… I really messed up. My seasickness has eased up a bit, so I’m going to try heading to the public bath. *Either people are avoiding it, or it’s just way too late — it’s basically empty…* The public bath is at the back of the ship on the 5th floor, and the hours are… Wait… what time does it close again? I’m getting a really bad feeling. Uh-oh. Looks like it closed at 11 PM. Major screw-up, part two. Thank goodness my room has a shower. I’ll wash my sadness away with hot water. *After showering, I want to instantly flop down,* *so I’ll prep my bed first.* Since I’m here, I added one more mat, and made an extra-large GORON space. Now tonight’s sleeping setup is perfect. I’m back from the shower. I’m super bare-faced, so lights out early tonight. Alright then, good night. *6:41 AM — the ferry is cruising off the coast of Aomori Prefecture.* Good morning! Sleeping on a futon in a Japanese-style room really helped, I slept SO well. There’s no way I’m wasting my breakfast ticket, so I’m going all-out eating from the morning. The breakfast buffet costs $9.50 per adult, which honestly isn’t cheap, but somehow I always end up eating it anyway (rice pun intended). This is what I grabbed for breakfast. This Sunflower curry, I’ve been saying this forever, but it’s seriously AMAZING. Honestly, I might’ve boarded just to eat this curry. *Okay, that’s definitely way too much.* To be totally honest, I was actually thinking of flying to Hokkaido on an LCC. But since it’s year-end, the prices were unbelievably high. When I checked prices on Trip.com, my eyes popped out like this fried egg. *Everything was over $200 — I was shaking.* Ferries don’t fluctuate in price like planes do, so they’re way more stress-free to book. Thanks for the meal! I’m completely full and super satisfied this morning. *By the way, this is the view from the restaurant.* *At this point, $9.50 totally feels worth it.* After breakfast, I’m going for my revenge from yesterday, so I’m heading to the 5th floor. Doing stuff like this on video, people might think I’m kind of unhinged, but that’s… a misunderstanding, I swear. Yesterday I fell asleep and couldn’t make it here, so now I’m at the onboard shop. There are about 4 hours left until Tomakomai, so I’ll grab some snacks just in case I get hungry. Hi, I’m Captain Suzuki. I’m the captain too. I’m also the captain. Together, the three of us… we’re the Captains! Tomakomai, yo-soro! Three captains is definitely too many. I came to visit my only friend onboard, the uniquely seasick bear, but he looks pretty rough, so I’ll leave him be. *Poor thing — I can’t even tell where his face is anymore.* I stocked up on a bunch of supplies at the shop. Hokkaido-exclusive milk coffee, this looks so good. And Sapporo Okaki “Oh! Yaki-Toukibi.” I got curious and bought it. And the real MVP — NIVEA moisturizing cream. It gets insanely dry on the ferry, so this is absolutely essential. I usually carry it with me, but of course, today is the one day I forgot it. Next year, I swear I’ll fix my forgetful habits. …I feel like I say that every single year. *I even made a “don’t forget” checklist recently,* *and forgot the checklist itself, so it was useless.* *If anyone has a good solution,* *I’ll gift you Yaki-Toukibi.* Three hours left until we arrive in Tomakomai. I wanna get my money’s worth from the Superior room, so um… I’ll be staying in and vibing. It’s 11:00 right now. We’ve got two and a half hours left until Tomakomai, but there’s zero sign of snow… Since there’s still time before disembarking, I’m gonna kill some time at the arcade. I’m starting to get bored of being alone, so it’s time to add a new friend. This might’ve been a mistake… Ah… no good? *Life is not that easy.* *My competitive side kicked in, so I put in another $1.35.* *I wanna pass out like this cat too.* *I finally got a ferry friend!* *And it somehow makes noises from its belly.* I burned a lot of time and money at the arcade, so I’ll spend the rest quietly in my room. I’ll fold up the mattress that took such good care of me, and clean up with the “leave it better than you found it” mindset (as best as I can). It’s 13:11 now. I can see the city of Tomakomai in the distance. I’m from Shizuoka, so just seeing snow piled up gets me hyped. Oh — I’ve spotted the docked Ishikari. Thanks again for taking such good care of me last time. Thank you very much for boarding Sunflower Sapporo. We will soon be arriving at Tomakomai Port. Please be sure you haven’t left behind any belongings, such as mobile phones, and prepare for disembarkation. *By the way, didn’t the Sunflower song change?* *Singing my heart out while hiding my mouth like I know the lyrics.* *Belting it with confidence.* I rode the Sunflower Sapporo, and made it from Oarai to Tomakomai. I did fall asleep halfway through, but honestly, that kind of voyage is nice sometimes. The Superior Japanese-style room was super comfortable, I could’ve stayed onboard for another 18 hours. Thank you so much for watching till the end. Don’t forget to subscribe, comment, and hit like! Bye-bye!
