Miwa Harimoto vs Sabine Winter | ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2025 Review by Table Tennis Global

Hello everyone, Zoe here once again from Table Tennis Global. For this episode, we are going to look at the second match between Japan and Germany in the semifinals of the ITTF mixed team world cup in Chungdu. Feel free to skip this video if you are not into sports commentaries. We have here two strong players. Starting with Japan, we have Miwa Harimoto, the young Japanese star battling the anti-pips user of Germany, Sabine Winter. Sabine Winter made impressive wins in the previous world table tennis events, creating a name for herself. On the previous match of Japan and Germany, the Japanese took over Germany with a solid 300 win in the first match of mixed doubles. This is now the chance of Sabine Winter to take the first win for Germany. Or is Miwa Harimoto too strong for her? Well, let’s find out. Are you with Sabine or with Miwa on this matchup? Miwa’s mother represented team China. [Applause] Sometimes the ball will knuckle off the anti- spin. Sometimes it can stop dead in front of you. Singing got Mia side. So she has to be careful about the timing of the shots. Mia. That was a nice shot selection. Youngest player in the world’s top 10. Mia Haram. Some fortune for Vinttor. And look how the very top Chinese players like one manu and shiny new sharp feel a bit handcuffed suffocated 96. Oh good recover. Notice the change of pace and speed of the ball after touching Sabine’s anti- pips. Anti- pips are annoying, especially if you are not familiar with its properties. Anti-ips tend to slow down the ball and kill the spin of the ball. Let’s say for example, the previous point, Mua attacked with a top spin and Sabine blocked it with her anti- pips. The ball comes back to Mua with a different speed. It slowed. When Mua touched the ball, it went on the net. Without a proper angle, the ball would just drop down dead. Anti pips kill the spin and slows the ball. Thus, you need to lift it when returning or put a top spin on it. Be sure to have the right contact as it might just go out of bounds. It is like a long pips, but it does not fully reverse the spin of the ball. It just kills it. Falling to Mia’s wide forehand on middle and then into the backand. That’ll be effective. playing them from the middle. And then one the rest of your game from time to time. Sabine is feeling her rhythm and seems like Miwa is getting rattled. She is feeling the power of the anti- pips. Can she reduce the deficit? [Music] Different story here looking pretty good, but she’s had to call a timeout. UFO shot. Let’s see. Haramoto. showing why watches on and supports her. What a good recovery by Muaharimoto to slow down her pace and then once she got the feel she went on a full blast attack from seven to one we are now at a tie score. Sabine is also feeling the pressure as she had a big lead against Mia. How have the tables turned? Third ball attack. Good recovery from home. Backhand block down the line. Game point. She switches. Mia successfully came back from that six-point deficit. It was a tough game too for Sabine Winter. She had the upper hand but eventually lost. Mima was just too good in that game too as she quickly adjusted to the pace and rhythm of the play. Still, props to Sabine Winter for closing the scores. A more accurate attack and she could beat Miwa Haramoto. Japan now leads 5 to zero against Germany. First three points was garnered by Hiroto and Mimito in the mixed doubles. And now Miwa contributed two points for the team. Germany is yet to score their first five serving two first game. Just a reminder that the next match here will be the men’s singles. Sor if can’t win this game, there’s no guarantee that we’ll get to see a doubles in match four. would be able to decide whether match four would be a men’s doubles or a women’s doubles being the lower ranked team. Sabine Winter is more explosive far from the table with her loop attacks. She is now doing what Miwa did on the previous game, closing the scores. And she might just be able to win this if Miwa couldn’t adjust. So with a long pinball defender, [Applause] [Applause] better late than never. And they do take and MIA was getting out of rhythm due to anti-picks power. Sabine Winter finally takes over game three to gain the first ever game win for Germany. Japan still leads with 5 to1 score. As mentioned on previous episodes, there are no match winner on this matchups. As you can see, Miwa got the first two game wins and Sabine had a game win in game three. Winner is determined by game wins. The team to reach eight game wins will win the match and will advance to the finals where team China is waiting. What do you think of Sabine Winter’s gameplay against Miwa? Zoe here signing off. Until next time, bye-bye.
