Good morning, cat. How’s it going? Oh, you’re so warm. What a good cat. All right, Grant. You ready to get the combine out? Get the combine out. This is Scotty’s favorite place to sleep right here. You see his little footprints? This is his throne. Uh, I don’t know. It’s pretty cold outside. Sounds good. Oh, I thought that was you saying stop. Sorry. I was about to stop and then then it sounded like it wanted to go. Try again. Confusing hand signals. Got her going. Hey, don’t look at that. I knew it. We got a little redneck rigging over here with our batteries. That might be a project for another day. You got a tail light out. What are these snacks? Huh? Snacks. No wonder we have mice. Hey, Grant. Use this. Hook the JLG up to the boat. We’ll pull it out of here. Have they seen the boat yet? I don’t think anyone’s seen the boat. So, this we’re not boat people and I don’t I swore I’d never buy a boat, but Laura just thought we had to have this thing. I convinced him. I found it and I thought it was perfect. Check this thing out. It’s a 96 bay liner. It’s perfect. Just nice enough to float. Don’t worry, I tested it out. But, uh, it’s it’s nothing special. My favorite part of it, and honestly, the reason why I bought it is it says Lil Yachty on it. I think that’s so funny. You know though, I have heard that the best two days of a boat owner’s life is the day he buys it and the day he sells it. So, we’ll see how long it stays around. Oh, duh. Battery disconnect. Help. Let’s hope she fits. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Oh my goodness. Grant’s going just a little too fast. Slow down, dude. combine. We will be back for you later. Does anyone else have this problem? I’m getting bundled up to go outside because it’s about 15 degrees outside right now. And I somehow pulled out four separate different mismatching gloves. Those are all kind of the same, but they’re all different. What in the world? Thus begins winter, I guess. Grant said he was tired of me rearranging the tools in his tool box the way I liked them. So I said fine, I’ll buy my own tool box. So this is the official Laura’s toolbox, which if you ask me is way cooler than Grant’s, but that’s just my opinion. So, now I get to spend the winter stocking it and organizing it just the way I’d like. I’m very excited to do that. Let’s see if we can find Scotty. Haven’t seen him yet this morning. Scotty. Hello. You’re not Scotty. I didn’t see him. What you doing? Uh, so this gas tank was labeled 32 to1, but it has red diesel in it. And the post hole digger ran out of gas, so I got to make some new gas in this jug. But I have to empty this jug before I can make new gas in it. Oh, gotcha. Okay. Well, good luck with that. You may notice these calf sheds are not where they used to be on the property. And that big pile of f fencing supplies is all gone. That is because we are nearly complete with our fencing remodel project on the property. All the fence has been torn out and sold and those cabin sheds are on their way out. And I will show you our project for the third calf shed. This has been part cleanup project, part building my dream fueling station. And this calf shed is just right. So, we got it all moved over here. Now, we’re going to put some fuel barrels in it and it will be the ideal fueling station for me. So, you can just pull right up your truck, your tractor, whatever it may be, and fuel right here. here. And if it’s raining, there’s a little awning. However, right now, the building is just sitting on the ground. So, our project for today is going to be drilling some anchor points, I think, pouring some concrete, and finding a way to secure this building down because while it’s not very windy today, thank goodness, on most days in Nebraska, it’s blowing something fierce. out. I don’t want this building to blow away. Here’s the little guy. All right. Now, now the project can officially start. That was a really bad idea. Come on, no. Here’s a little note to the audience. When you toss a 60 lb bag of concrete, has a tendency to break open. So, I’ve never actually run one of these things before, but I think I can lift it, so that’s encouraging. It’s not too heavy. I can handle it. I just start it up. And does it start spinning as soon as I start it up? Uh, no. I just start it up. Here’s a little button over here. On, off. Okay. Yank this and start making noise. And to make more noise, you do this. Okay. And that thing, the bottom part, will spin around quite a bit. So, just watch your loose clothes and hair. Yeah. Okay. Sounds good. So, I started making a hole over there. Okay. All right. Well, I’ll just start it there. Start. How cool is it? Yeah. Well, you notice there’s this like white stuff on the ground everywhere. It’s done nothing. And I can see your breath. There’s a very good chance the ground is frozen, which I thought it wouldn’t be froze yet, but that’s why it might be so hard. I literally did nothing. I mean, no. And there used to be a tree right near here, so you might be fighting roots. But let me give it a whirl. Okay, you give it a try. Thing smells like my old dirt bike. Yeah, I’m running uh VP 110 race gas and Yamalube in here button. Well, you definitely have more leverage than I do. These little chips, that’s what the ground does when it’s frozen. Oh, yeah. frozen dirt. H I thought it’s a nice sunny day. Like there’s hardly even any wind. I thought we could get something done today, but dang. I just really want don’t want these sheds to uh blow away. This is like a big sale. Like I mean, see that? Yeah, wind could definitely do that. I think this would be a great little home for Scotty. I’ve been thinking about making a little area for him. A perfect little box for him. So, it needs a little clean up. Maybe cut a little hole in there. I think it could make a good little home for Scotty. Put some shingles on top. Yeah. Make make it kind of cute. Put his food and water in there. I love it. Um, I think we’re just going to put the concrete inside and save this project for a warmer day. It’s not going to be cold forever, just like typical Nebraska weather. It’ll be 15° one day, but there’s a forecast I see. Well, there’s one day in this coming week that’s going to be 62°. So, even if the ground maybe isn’t thawed enough, I I don’t know what the plan is. We’re just going to have to save it for a warmer day. So, the concrete’s going to go inside for now. Somebody busted a bag open. At the risk of sounding stupid. I had no idea how heavy bags of concrete were. Okay. They’re such tiny little bags. I figured how heavy could they be? I don’t know. Bags of concrete are like you. Dude, good things come in small packages. You watch yourself. You were walking a fine line there, mister. Hey, I thought that was a great compliment. Oh my goodness. The semitrs were going to be parked for some time because it’s getting cold outside and we are good on hauling corn. However, one of the cores of the bin is starting to get hot and uh so we’re going to have to take some corn from the middle like core of the bin and haul that into town. So, we’re going to pull this semi out. And in order to get semi out, have to get the tractor and the disc pulled out. I can That is a silly sounding horn. Continuing on with our theme of property cleanup. This is one of the last few corners that has remnants of things that need to be gone through. One of those being this geo tracker that Grant had grand plans with. Maybe still has grand plans with. So it served its purpose. I got its engine. I took the engine out for my geot tracker like probably like a year and a half ago. Some some of you probably remember that. Well, what’s the plan with this thing now? Well, I want to take the transmission out of it and the differentials and stuff, transfer case in case mine goes out. I have extra parts. But this thing is it’s flat. Don’t let a mouse jump out of it at me. Look at this top. I mean, I mean, the straight body pan long. I don’t know. I guess I’m going to get like $12 for it if I take it in the junkyard, so I might as well keep it. I gotcha. Well, we’ve got some pivot parts, some boards, and then this is our main thing that we’re looking at here. It’s a trailer as you can see, but it’s been parked and turned into more of like a shipping container type thing. And I was going to say it’s filled with junk, but it’s not necessarily junk. There’s definitely some usable items in here. It just needs to be cleaned out so that it can be turned into more of an actual space. It’s a UMC center drive. Oh yeah, look at that. As you guys Oh, wow. That’s That’s worth some money right there. As you guys know, uh this was definitely like I could not have planted this. Um UMC has been sponsoring our channel for the past year and our sponsorship is actually coming to a close at the end of this year. Um, but we have been really thankful for their so for their support um of the channel and all of our pivot repair needs. They have really great stuff. Um, wow. Yeah, this is all this is pivot part stuff. Like this can restock our pallet that we used all summer long. Not a lot of pivot maintenance is happening right now. It’s like you guys have figured out, it’s pretty cold outside and so Running Pivots are definitely not at the top of our priority list, but UMC has been a fabulous sponsor of our page. And we were using their parts long before they were sponsors. So, if you need any kind of motion component for your Pivot, pretty much any brand, they can help you out. We got an old refrigerator in here. What do we think? I do. I’m standing back here. I don’t want to be around when that thing opens. Grant, we got a radiator. That’s kind of cool. Hey. Okay. Open. For fun, just open the refrigerator. Well, you guys got any guesses of what’s going to be in here? A can of beans. A can of beans? Yeah. Look at this lock. Is it locked? Blade maker. No. I’m guessing this refrigerator hasn’t actually worked for quite some time. Maybe just a seven insect. I don’t know what that means. That’s kind of a cool bridge, though. Oh, yeah. Look at that. Huh. I’m really glad a rat didn’t jump out of there. Well, Grant and I are going to piece by piece take all this stuff out, sort it into what we can keep, what we can sell, and what needs to be recycled or taken to a junkyard. And then this trailer/s storage container can turn into a space for us. In keeping with the theme of the video of cleaning stuff up around the place, I am going to do a full extensive clean on the razor since we just got back from our Moab trip and I posted a video about that. Um, and that should be posted before this one. Um, so definitely go check that out. Kate and I had an amazing time in Utah. But it’s time to clean this little girl up. So, thanks for watching today’s video and we’ll see you in the next one. Bye. Heat. Heat. It is so cold and windy outside. I know this is silly, but every year I forget about daylight savings, which I hate. And I also forget about what it feels like when Nebraska gets cold, but it’s not pleasant. Today, I’m doing something that really makes me appreciate the huge tires we have on this tractor. They were great for the grain cart, but I’m really starting to see their value. I am discing. Well, I guess I can just tell you guys Grant and I picked up a new field to rent this year. This is not something that happens very often. Um, but a kind of neighbor or area farmer approached us and said he had a field that was just a little too far for him to farm. It wasn’t very convenient and didn’t make a lot of sense for him to bring all his equipment over here and farm it and he didn’t want to sell it, but he was looking for a younger farmer to rent it to. So, we approached Grant and I and we were really honored and so we just had a meeting to discuss land rent and how that’s all going to work. I think that was two days ago and now we’re getting to start work on the field. Um, we are going to uh use different rows than the previous farmer farmed on and so we are discing it up. This field is not flat. There is some smooth parts, but it has a lot of hills and valleys and gullies and draws through it. And so these tires with the extra pulling power they have and how smooth of a ride they provide has been really nice. I have my auto steer line set at an angle. So, I’m going a little bit across the rose. And there’s a few reasons behind this, but the main reason is because this disc, it’s a sunflower disc, uh, 1435. It’s a great disc, but the discs themselves don’t break the ground up into small enough chunks just with one pass. So, we’re going to have to disc this at least two times, maybe three times. So, instead of discing in the exact same pattern with the rows just back and forth and back and forth three different times, we’ll disc them at an angle this way and then an angle this way and then maybe even one final time straight across before we set the new rows that we’re going to farm on for this field. As you can see in kind of the distance there, this field does have a pivot on it. So, it’s irrigated and that is super nice. Here you can see um that is not exactly flat. There’s definitely some personality and texture to this particular piece of ground. However, not complaining too much because a new piece of ground to farm is a new piece of ground to farm and I’ll take it. I’m going roughly 5 and 12 to 6 miles an hour depending on where I’m at in the field and what I think the disc can handle. as opposed to some other farmers you might see on the internet, um perhaps some ones up in Minnesota that do really deep tillillage every year. Uh we usually don’t do that. We are more of like a modified ridge till we don’t disc our fields like this up every year because most of the time we don’t have to. We do not get a lot of moisture here. This year we got hardly any. So, the ground is really dry and hard. Um, but some farmers that maybe in some of the more northern states get a lot more water. They actually kind of have to deep rip and disc up their fields to just kind of dry it out a little bit so they can get in the fields and work it. Wow, I am pulling so hard uphill. These tires are working. So impressive. Here is where you can really feel the effects of how dry this year has been. Even though this field is irrigated, the ground is just so hard and dry due to lack of moisture. The disc and the tractor are really having to work to tear it up. Since the pivot It went around so many times. There’s some really deep pivot tracks out in this field. And I was going to take the pivot track closer out here um and close them up, but I figured if I’m just going to disc it anyways, I might as well not. And I think that’s another reason why I’m going to have to disc it so many times just to try and fill in some dirt. And I would also like to do I don’t know if it’s going to happen this year because we’re expecting some really cold weather like much colder than it is today. I think it’s going to freeze for about the next 8 to 10 days. And so that’s really uh not going to make it ideal for dirt work. But at some point before we plant this field, I would like to get some kind of dozer out here and just try to fill in some of these waterways. I know they’re probably going to wash next year if we get any rain, but if I can at least make them not so severe and just kind of try to smooth things out, that’s kind of my goal. I don’t know when that’s going to happen, though. Every year of farming, I am learning more and more. And my goal is always to learn how to be the best steward of the land that I possibly can be because this is the land that I’ll hopefully be farming for the rest of my life. So, I want to take really good care of it um and use practices that are going to give the land the best chance of providing for me um but then keep it providing for me for the rest of my life. and my eventual kids’ lives and grandkids lives and so on and so forth. Um, yeah, I just want to be knowledgeable and use the best farming practices that I can. I want to take care of this stuff. Same goes for my equipment. I want to make sure I’m taking good care of my equipment because this stuff is not cheap and I want it to treat me right and last me as long as possible. I’m not looking to buy another one of these bad boys anytime soon. Heat. Heat. Compared to all the like crazy hustle and bustle and like deep urgency that harvest is, fall fieldwork brings a really relaxing, calming I don’t know. It’s just like a much more fun activity to do, especially since discing isn’t something that I get to do very often. And so I’ve really enjoyed myself out here. It’s just me, a tractor, wide open spaces, um lots of time to think, but it’s really peaceful and relaxing compared to harvest. I am so excited to see what we get to do with this new piece of ground that we get to farm um and rent. Feel like there’s a lot of exciting things ahead. So, I appreciate you guys watching today’s video. Um, if you like, uh, subscribe to see more. It should be a hopefully a short winter and we’ll get right back into spring and we can start the whole process of farming over again. And, uh, that’ll be it for me today. We’ll talk to you guys later. Bye. Hey, cutie. Hello. So, what do you think of the new farm? It needs some work. Needs some work, huh? It needs some work. It’s not terrible. Could be a lot worse, but I feel like it could be a lot better. I think we can we can make some improvements to it. What do you think? Are you happy? Do you like it? The disc, you’re doing a great job. The discing looks really good. Thanks. I think it turned out pretty good. Imag please please please subscribe and like starting video Foreign speech.
