Sorry, I’m so embarrassed Since you used to go by “Airin” Yeah, when I was in elementary school I thought she’d go with “Nina-ling” (Today’s nickname: Nina-ling) I actually thought about
your nickname since last night I came up with two options “Ai-chan” or “Ai-ne”, it’s “Airi” plus
“nee-chan” (big sister) So I was thinking “Ai-ne” Which one do you like better?

I totally missed my chance! Nina-ling❤ MAKO-tan❤ (Airi Suzuki: Passed the Hello! Project Kids audition
at age 8 among over 27,000 applicants) You passed the Hello! Project Kids audition
at just 8 years old, out of so many applicants! What made you decide to audition?
(Q. What made you join the audition?) I’d been taking singing and
dance lessons since kindergarten It was a three-year program,
and after you finish, you graduate The timing worked out perfectly
when I was in first grade, and there just happened to be an audition So I was like, “I wanna try!” It was around the time I had to decide
between preparing for elementary
entrance exams or pursuing this path So I made the decision myself, because I really wanted to sing That’s how I ended up auditioning I see I’ve always loved singing
and dancing since I was little, so I decided to give this path a try My parents were the ones
who supported me all the way That’s amazing✨️ I used to climb on a dresser and go, “It’s time for Ai-chan’s show♪” (So cute❤)
I wish I could’ve seen that! There are so many childhood videos of me
(Airi Suzuki’s childhood) I wish I was born a bit earlier Maybe you were born
around the time I debuted? NINA was born in 2005, and I was born in 2001 I started working in this industry in 2002 Oh wow, that’s scary! Even if I cut my career in half,
it’s still longer! ℃-ute was formed in 2005,
so that makes me happy Me too❤ I’m glad I was born that year! I’ve always… thought of Ai… Sorry~! I’m really not good at this kind of stuff I used to watch the shows
you were on, Ai-chan, and I always admired your positive mindset and attitude I also try to think positively
in my own way, so I feel like we might have something in common You’re right! (Q. What do you keep in mind
when working?) My mom’s teachings had
a big influence on me (The “Three-Year Rule”)
I learned something called
the Three-Year Rule in middle school, and I’ve kept it in mind ever since If I’m happy now, it’s because the me from three years ago
worked really hard to earn it So even if things are tough right now, it’s a reminder to work hard
for the me three years from now That’s such a great mindset! So even when things get hard, I can tell myself it’s for my future self, and if something doesn’t go well, I can think, ‘Oh, it’s because I didn’t
work hard enough three years ago’ That way, instead of blaming anyone else,
I can find closure within myself Having that personal rule helps me understand things and move forward (Airi Suzuki’s wisdom:

That’s so inspiring! I just learned something really deep Let’s all work hard for our future
selves, three years from now! That really makes me want
to work harder right now! Three years is a perfect span.
I totally recommend it! You’re a role model admired
by so many idols, including us (Q. How do you usually practice?) Do you have any special practice methods? I’m not sure if this will
actually help anyone, but… When everyone’s at the studio and the members are all practicing together… Do you prefer working
on your own after that? – I need to practice separately
– Right? After group practice ends, I usually stay a bit longer
and practice by myself again Until I feel satisfied with my performance Same here
(Resonating) Seriously, same What kind of outfit do you wear then? Outfit? Yeah, that’s actually important to me I don’t wear anything specific though Since it’s basically a battle with myself, I go for something super comfortable When I practice at home,
since no one’s watching, I try to wear as little as possible Like… almost underwear level (Airi Suzuki’s tip:

I’m not sure that’s great advice, but still! No, I totally get what you mean I haven’t really talked about this before, but after I shower, I practice while drying my hair Clothes can really affect a performance, for better or worse So I train myself to be
comfortable no matter what I wear (Airi Suzuki’s rule: Understand your body well) When I rehearsed in a cool jersey, it looked like everything was going perfectly But when I performed bare-legged,
I realized my legs spread more than I thought, and that kind of scared me So now, I try to practice in outfits that
show my body clearly in front of the mirror (Q. What do you focus on
during performances?) If I want to give someone strength or cheer someone up, then I think it’s important
that I feel that way myself first So I try to stay aware of what gives me energy and motivation That’s something I really value
(Airi Suzuki’s wisdom:
Never forget to see yourself objectively) But it’s always different
once you’re on stage, right? You never know what
might happen out there Just the presence of fans gives you so much incredible energy Things don’t always go as
planned during rehearsals, but you still look so graceful
even when hitting high notes Huh? High notes? No way! You’re so good at those high,
long notes though! I’ve actually studied that a lot My jaw tends to stick out a bit
when I sing Oh! Me too Yeah, my jaw always comes forward When I see myself from the side,
it doesn’t look great So when the camera gets close, I instinctively pull back like this To hide the jaw? To hide the jaw And I try not to look
directly at the camera – Oh, like that!
– Exactly This is kind of off-topic, but
when you sing high notes, do you have a certain angle
that makes it easier? For me, it’s always this side My voice projects better

like ‘AlwayS,’ I focus straight ahead…

– Are you okay with that? Is there a current trend for ending fairies? There used to be a “cat pose” trend But now it’s more of a “visual shot” A visual shot…? Like winning people over

it over and over again Among NiziU’s songs, that’s
one we especially love too They totally crushed it You completely slayed that one I especially love how NINA
wraps it up with that high note That last part gives me chills every time Whenever that happens, there’s this

smiling so proudly It’s really amazing! Even I was watching thinking,

stage was from which period You were always so polished and complete Absolutely perfect✨️ She was already complete✨️ I could just tell that reaching
that level of perfection must’ve taken so much effort I end up watching you
with almost a parent’s pride It instantly makes me
think of your journey so far… how much sweat and tears must’ve gone into becoming
who you are today I just hope you guys are happy We really are happy right now MAKO always stays behind at the agency to practice on her own…
She keeps going until she gets it right I was never someone who
could pick things up quickly So I practiced over and over until I felt like, ‘Okay, I can show this now’ Once I gain that confidence, that’s when I can step on stage I just keep practicing
by myself like that When I was in an idol group too, I had really strong perfectionist tendencies I felt like every single performance
had to be flawless That was just the kind of person I was So I accepted that mindset and performed that way But through my solo career, especially when singing ballads, I try to keep my pitch steady, but sometimes the emotions
I’m feeling in that moment come through in the song in a good way That’s something I really came to realize There were even times when I sang while crying, And even though the song
might be sad and emotional, if I happened to feel a bit
frustrated that day, I’d let that emotion come through instead Learning to accept myself as I am, telling myself ‘It’s okay, you’re fine’ I think that made things feel easier That’s something I
really wanted to say today I still have a lot to work on myself, but when you reach a point where
you can find ease even in perfection, I think your heart will feel so much richer Watching you, I can
really relate to that feeling I do think the way you
are now is already great, but before your heart gets too tense, I hope you can let a little
air out and take things easier before things get too tense
