Thank you for being present. I know um you are busy um welcoming uh President Trump tomorrow but um Japan of course please importance to ASEAN and we are appreciative of this uh you have to fly back late tonight and we wish you well in this bilateral meeting with the United States. Um, ASEAN and Japan have long been collaborating in trade investments and uh, we look forward to enhancing this with you. And uh, now my it is my pleasure to invite the excellency, Prime Minister of Japan to deliver your opening remarks. Thank you. Uh thank you Mr. J. First of all I would like to express my deep condolences to the passing of her majesty queen circuit of Thailand. I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to prime minister Anoir and the government of Malaysia for their effort and warm welcome at the SN chair. My gratitude go to Prime Minister Wong of Singapore as well for his kind cooperation and the country coordinator for us and Japan. I would also like to congratulate Prime Minister Guzman on Tim Rest’s official act accession to Asim. Uh it is an honor for me to meet you as readers uh of my first foreign visit as prime minister of Japan. Japan and Asun have built a relationship as trusted partners with heart to heart connections uh through longstanding cooperation in the wide range of areas and Japan advocates uh for free and open in the Pacific and consistently support the Asan outlook on the in the Pacific. which shares fundamental principles with POIP. Uh it is very gratifying uh to be able to adapt a joint statement with us readers today which affirm the synergy between FOIP and A of confirm our will to promote further cooperation between Japan and ASU. The next year marks the 10th anniversary uh since the prime minister a launched POP in 2016. We will use this opportunity to uh reposition POP as a pillar of Japanese diplomacy and evolve it in line with change in the times. uh we would like to further strengthen our collaboration with AOIP to make Japan and Asan strong stronger and more prosperious. Japan’s first female Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, makes her historic debut at the ASEAN–Japan Summit in Kuala Lumpur.
In her opening remarks, Takaichi expresses condolences to Thailand’s royal family, gratitude to Malaysia’s PM Anwar Ibrahim for hosting, and reaffirms Japan’s commitment to a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) aligned with ASEAN’s vision.
Takaichi also pledges to strengthen cooperation in digital innovation, green transition, cybersecurity, and sustainable development, marking a new chapter in Japan–ASEAN relations.
