Studio time | Pre-production | My dream song recording | The Band of Waves
[Music] I’m glad I don’t have to sing after all that ash. Get a few [Music] just Oh, yeah. [Music] This is going to sound I have to take a picture of that. That’s [ __ ] psychedelic. It’s going to sound awesome. It is already I know. I um It’s reminding me of What the Caterpillar Buries, which is another psychedelic song I released. It’s really good. You probably heard that one. I like that one. I think I really think in um if you know Valhalla like the reverb if you’ve ever used it but that one’s really really cool especially like if you ever get into production stuff. Yes. If you’re going to splurge on a reverb Valhalla is the best like room and the vintage verb one are so good for like sachs um and flutes and any type of woodwin instruments. Like I I’m just in love with them. They just sound amazing. Um, and they can give you like Valhalla. Um, so we’re saying when we get up on stage because we’ve only we haven’t done that yet, we will get we need to get a reverb. We need his microphone going through a reverb. Yeah. And we can dial it in. Mhm. Thank you. Valhalla. Yeah. Valhalla particularly. Send me tell me just I won’t remember. Yeah. Yeah. I love all these ideas. you’ll hear it and I’ll put it I’ll put it on and it’s like the reason is it’s just one of the best emulation reverbs I think in my opinion out there there’s a lot but this one probably make your your flute sound even better it’s going to make it spacey and like it’s it doesn’t sound synthetic which is cool yeah I’m looking forward to it yeah it’s cool okay sorry I get excited about all the little like toys and tools I’m glad you’re excited about it I know it’s going to be good you’re you’re into you know, [Music] I would say my my I’m a little heavy on the bass for like the overall. Yeah. So, we can kind of cabinet. And that’s where I think I would like I tried to like dial in the I Yeah, I do some mids. I do a lot of treble and a bunch of mids, but not too much bass when I do like a set up through an amp. It gives it the sound that the mic. Okay. Now, I know we’re getting a lot of vibration, right? The buzz, but it but that’s what it sounds like when it’s uh so it’s got that’s good. It’s got it’s got that mix. Yeah. And now to the [Music] dying dying. So, and I know it buzzes a little too much, but if that can just be taken out, that would be great. It’s like the the you know the the theord. Yeah, there’s just a little bit there. It’s mostly a great sound, but just, you know, you know what I’m saying? It’s that I don’t Yeah. Great. Yeah. Are you hear this? Yeah. You don’t understand. But I think that that’s more what it when I’m hitting it, it sounds it sounds better. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, I don’t know if you can clean that up enough, but I definitely can. I can either. Great. And it’s a little out of, you know, out of uh out of pulling the string or a little out of tune or whatever. Make it just a perfect E or whatever you need to do, right? Yeah. [Music] So, something about the resonance in it needs to stay, right? Yeah. Because I think that’s part of it’s doing a drone. I find like my bass is often providing a drone like sound, right? So, amp [Music] Well, that’s cool. [Music] [Music] [Music] It’s going to be like dopeified or something, right? It’s got to be like uh you know, I always usually just add like a bit of uh compression on it on that sound. Uh take away Yeah. a little [Music] just don’t want to take away. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe maybe No, maybe, you know, maybe I’m I’m going crazy. And maybe it was better where you had it, dude. No, I definitely It was just for for a while I thought it was just a little heavy on the bass. It sounded really good where you had it and I probably should have left it there. Or maybe just just taking a little of it off but not maybe gone all the way. I don’t know. Or unless you think I am on to something there’s but it maybe it’s yeah I’m getting that that too much of that buzz if we don’t you know do it more in the bass. I think You’re doing something there. That’s good. Yeah, that’s cool. just goes a little bit off. Okay. And I think I’ve taken too much bass out. I think we do need a little more. It needs to resonate a little bit more, too. Yeah. Oh, maybe it’s in too much. [Music] I know it’s better. Little less space. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. [Music] It’s like getting dialing it in, right? Yeah. I don’t know what you’re doing, right? It’s good there. [Music] It’s a natural uh distortion, right? Natural buzz. But it’s too much, right? Okay. Dude, we got to go back to where you were. I’ve taken us down a dark road. I think I’ve taken us down a dark road, maybe. No, we’re good. Okay. [Music] You’re going to clean it up later. [Music] It’s all I’ve ever seen. I am stepping into my dream right now. Oh, what a great uh platform for singing. This will be this. [Music] [Music] Yeah, that sounds like my base to my ears anyways when I hear it. And it’s ideal like it’s [Music] [Music] [Music] It’s going to be and I see and I step into my dream. Live right now and feel the magic in creation. Live right now. The train’s not at the station. Live right now and get on the bus. Live right now. You want a bus? [Music] I am one. It’s all I know. I am dying. One more ride. It’s time to take me home. I am one more. It’s all I’ve ever seen. I am I am [Music] Yeah. I left a little bit of imperfe imperfections in the timing of your bass. Thank you. Cuz it it like it it makes you right. Real sounding good. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I I love having that buzz in the kids. That’s the drone right there. That thing. [Music] And we can kind of we can do a tempo shift here too because I think you [Music] at the end. Yeah, right at the end. I do I kind of I walk the last, you know, bar down or whatever. See if we can. It’s right there. I just tell like a blunt line. And you can you can make it more smooth if you want on your way out, but I just generally walk it out. [Music] Yeah, we can end it however, but I just ended it like I do in a live performance. So, I just want to see if I take this and do a little. Oh, so you’re just hear me stretching out my bass playing to fix it or just slowing down the timing. You’re doing something cool. It’s interesting. [Music] Just want to make sure I don’t get too artificial. Careful. [Music] [Music] [Music] just Yeah. I don’t know. I’m going to keep it natural. Yeah, I think so. Cuz it needs to walk out like naturally instead. I think so. It’s better. It’s like most of the songs. It makes it even more gentle. You do this gentle song and then you kind of walk it out. It’s really sounds great anyways in one performance to do it like that. It’s always, you know, I just try to walk out with the band right at the time and just know at that part we start walking it out. Okay. Um I think I’m good for the flute. [Music] What I will need to do is um Like I’ll just need you to play just so I can start um EQing it, compression, like doing a little bit. Is it going to be near this thing? Yes. So that’s what I’m what I actually want to use. Nice. Nice. Um cuz you’re probably dead. Here’s your water. [Music] Excuse me. Okay, I’m going to get it more here. Yay. It’s happening. You You don’t just have to sit here. You’re going to have to be involved here. Just um position yourself like you would be playing. [Music] Perfect. And then Headphones are behind you. Oh, yeah. They’re right on the table. Yeah. Okay. Oh, yeah. If you just want to do a test, just play a little bit. The three sides of B. [Music] Beep beep. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Okay. Yeah. Boom. Really good. Really good. Wow. Nice. Beautiful. Beautiful. Yeah. Okay. So now, um, we’ll just go through and then do your thing. So it’ll give you, uh, like a four bar counted. One, two, three, four, and then everything will kind of start start playing. So I think the intro is um, starts about here. I can give you like a visual cue here. Just I’ll put a marker in. So this is believe this would be verse one. would be this. So that would be the whole intersection and then believe this is where the come. No pressure. Just have fun. Yeah, right on. You’re It was amazing, dude. [Music] [Music] Hey. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Hey, [Music] [Music] [Music] Hallelujah. [Music] [Music] Holy [ __ ] that was sweet. I don’t know. That was awesome. That was incredible. Yeah, man. Thank you. Wow, dude. Wow. Wow. It was amazing. And then we could hear your breathing at one point. It was getting into the rhythm. I was like, “Oh my god, that was incredible.” Yeah. Really, really amazing. Okay. Um, so let’s give it a listen. I’m just going to kind of blend it, start to bring it up in there. [Music] Wow. Wow. [Music] Yeah. Opens it up. That’s the reverb, is it? It’s opening it. It’s like it’s shoots across [Music] the town. Yeah. Wow. Feel like you’re we’re in open air concert, right? Yeah. There we go. Yeah. It’s so good. Yeah, [Music] man. [Music] Yeah. [Music] Angel beginning. Oh, traffic. Traffic. Thank you, Stephen England. I’m feeling like a John Barley car must die. Wow. So good. Oh my god. Beautiful. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Beautiful. [Music] Beautiful. [Music] Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. [Music] [Applause] Oh. [Music] [Applause] Yeah. Yeah. Right on. Right on. That That’s sick, right? That is just sick, right? Absolutely. Oh gosh. No, I was going to get to be like Stevie Winwood. That was awesome. I forget who it was Kapali or Mason or I forget who played the flute with them, but that totally reminds me of traffic in the best possible way. Oh my god. France or something. No, you were in there, dude. You were pulling. No, totally. You were in the zone. You were, man. you you were you spent time there. You you get yourself into the zone in a really beautiful way. When I was uh playing on this, I was only listening to the sound. Yes. In the best possible way in the headphones. Yes. Like I was uh you know even the what I was playing was uh you know sounding very pleasing to myself. So I could hear nothing. So I was I just went on with that. It’s just so good. So beautiful. Each part like is different in a beautiful way, right? It’s like it’s buried. So, and and it it just ends really. It’s wonderful. There’s these moments when it’s moving that are like these super magical parts where all of a sudden it opens up and there’s these like I don’t even know what they are, but almost like there’s a breath of something super and it’s just part of it as it’s moving. It’s so it’s got multi layers. It uh it es and flows. [Music] Did I get to put lyrics in there, too? [Music] Yeah, that’s freaking great. [Music] I love that tablet sound [Music] like the whole thing. It’s it’s it’s vibrating nicely. It’s that drone, right? [Music] Focus. [Music] Hello. [Music] Oo. [Music] Hey. Hey. Yeah, it’s great. [Music] [Music] I like that. I was hearing like a like a jazz ride. It was trippy. It was great. I love it. Love it. Yeah, it was like traffic. It reminds me of traffic. It was their thing. I love that. I want to try one more thing. Make it super [Music] [Music] Heyoo. [Music] Hey. Hey. Do you [Music] Come on. [Music] You [Music] Yeah. Find a new space mixing hearing. [Music] All the sounds and [Music] I want to see if this is going. That’s really good. It’s really good. [Music] Wow. Oh, I love that part. That’s great. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Bring it in the line there. [Music] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. [Music] There you go. [Music] that last. No, we’ll see. I don’t know. I just like how it like cuz we can kind of like No, I was joyful. It made me laugh at the end. I don’t know what happened, but I liked it. And play that again. Yeah, there’s something. I didn’t mind anything there. Made me I think it’s kind of fun. I think it’s good. I think it’s uh I like it how I think it kind of slows down or whatever or whatever. I like that. In into the dream. Into the dream. Yeah. Yeah. Slide into the dream and yeah, good good vibration. Oh, it sounds like Floyd. Tick tock. Tick tock. Can make it sound like dark side of the moon. Okay, I’m going to just put a marker here just so I can remember. Traffic. Oh my god, the next great traffic album. I didn’t think we were going to make it, but I’m proud of us. Do you want any like textures? Because you could do some like it’s like let’s see. I don’t know what would go what other instruments are needed. There’s a lot of sound. I almost feel like you don’t want to over layer it. Right. I’m more so thinking like this. But but I liked like what you did with the tablets when you added a bit of a chime or something. I mean clapping or snapping something, you know, some sort of other rhythm maybe if anything. I don’t know. The instruments would be I think would be too much. Right. Right. Yeah, I think we don’t want to cloud it too much. We want to keep it because you could do like but we could do it with like your voice. You could just do some like reverb stuff where you’re like like like breaths or like those type of things might be cool as like ambient but make it not as prominent as like your your instruments more in like the background and kind of like panning and floating. Well, what I can do is like I was doing it on a bit of it there when you were having the going is just kind of do the drone like sing on the drone and it could be could be put in underneath stuff if you know what I mean. I think too but I could maybe I the the aireriness I’m a little confused exactly. It’s like uh I’m a little confused, but I can definitely make lots of sounds when we re-record and I’m I’m a good vocalist and and I I could sing along or you can say, “Hey, what about when we’re in it?” Like say, “Hey, can you do something in this part if you have a suggestion there or whatever?” Or, you know, we can work through it that way and we can put pieces in or whatever. Uh yeah, I love the flute. I was actually thinking about getting like that kind of type of flute just for like it’s really cool when you when you do like arpeggiations on like a nylon string and you do that you can make like cool little like beats around it. But I noticed too you can like each each flute is like it’s not like a saxophone, right? It’s like every flute has a different key, right? So it’s like you have to amass amount of flutes over a certain amount of time because it’s like if I’m working in this scale I mean you could still work in the the same scale. I think the the cool thing is like if I did get one, that’s where the production can come in because all I have to do is like pitch shift it. Yeah. And then it basically can be in any scale that I I want it to. It’s just I have to play in whatever the scale of the flute is, which is kind of a downside. It has like different notations to so you can play with that. And there’s like there’s a ton of different variations. There’s like this um there’s like a what is it? A Native American one, but it’s more like the recorder style. I was looking at those. Those were cool. Those are super cool. And some one of them’s in like 432 hertz. Did you hear about Did you read that little bit? This one guy makes them out near Toronto somewhere. I was checking it out and and he says, “Oh yeah, right. 440 hertz for a right was is something and it’s it’s centered it’s centered on the mind, but 432 is centered on the heart and they so traditionally the first nations have been 432 and so they have some flutes available like that.” Yeah. and and it is cool and I just learned that recently. But yeah, that is a beautiful sound. It’s it’s got this ethereal ethereal even the blowing is like very simple because it’s your um Yeah, it’s your what is it? Your amisher your like for your mouth, right? Yeah, that’s the harder part, right? With the with the flute there. The cool thing is I mean not that you can’t get expression out of that one, but you can get a lot of expression with that type of flute. like when he was the other kind the the first nations flute. No, this No, I know right. No, that’s it. I thought Yeah, first nation flute is like more like it’s similar. It’s very beautiful with some songs or stuff like that, but it cannot go along with so many things like this flute can go with like jazz flute. Yeah, because it’s like if you did like a traditional flute flute. Well, I mean, not a nonwood flute and you’re doing like a They do that for jazz all the time, too. And like the breath work and all that stuff is so interesting, but it’s a whole skill in itself cuz it’s not just about like I know where to place my fingers now. It’s like can I make the tone? And then now I have to add expression to the tone, which is cool. It’s so cool. It is so cool. Right. A lot of my works are this peace and love thing. So, like it fits right in. I love it. I love it. It’s just It’s a total unexpected inspiration. And so, yeah, we pick songs that go with the G flute, right? Yeah. And two of them were Buddha Buddha thinking songs I was learning. So I I learned because I’m working with two um like Punjabi artists. Okay. Um and they’re telling me because um like uh who uh who is it? Hunan Kind like the the rapper. He’s like a big rapper in India right now. But he he has like this cool bracelet and then they were showing me that they have a bracelet and I was like I was like man I want to have one of those. And and they’re like well we can get you one but it can’t be blessed. And I was like, “Oh.” He’s like, “Yeah, as long as it’s not because if you don’t believe in what it stands for,” he says, “You could bring the opposite of it’s like Rasta. You’re not supposed to wear the Rsta colors unless you’re Rasta.” Like, interesting. Right. Heard that before. As long as you are respecting it, then it’s neglecting it. Put it anywhere like just give it a respect. You can wear that that thing, right? Yeah. Yeah. That’s what they That’s kind of what it is. It’s like you you have to respect what it stands for. They call it K. So it’s like it’s like the energy you put out. Yeah. Oh, no. I’m interested too. And that that thing they used to use as a weapon as well before. Yeah. Yeah. And they used to make it into a blade. Yeah. Blade. And weapons like they like if something happens, they use it as self defense because they can bring it here. It’s really big. And uh in the past it used to be they used to wear really heavy ones. Nowadays it’s more of a fashion style, right? So yeah, there’s like beads and it can be really heavy like you know. So yeah, I’ve seen People don’t go around. It’s not like it used to be. Hopefully a little hopefully. Although sometimes it gets crazy over there, too. It’s It’s very It was really interesting to learn. It was like the They have Yeah, they have like the leathering lettering all on it and stuff, which was cool. So, yeah. Um and then I asked um the artists that I was working with from Nepal, they’re like, “We can,” they’re like, “We’ll bring you the honey like that honey.” He’s been talking to me about that. Honey, I was like I was like I don’t know if I’m ready for that because it’s like it’s very when you’re It’s like one of those Yeah. It’s like one of those things where it’s like if you’re No, you’re in the You just got to be in the right place. I like I like to be if I whenever I do anything more than just hash or weed. It’s like uh I’d like to be at a cottage or something, you know, with people then and so then I can just get outside or whatever. Like I wouldn’t want to be in this room if I was in too heavy psychedelics. It’d be too small. Yeah, that’s true. But it was like, yeah, I’m just on the perfect amount. It’s it’s more so because you’re exposed to it all the time. The effects are like you’re used to it a little bit more, I’ve heard. Like, so people from Nepal that like actually harvest like the Oh, they honey and all of that stuff. Like it’s way different than if it’s like your first time. I’m sure. Well, I’m Yeah. Well, then I’m interested. Like I might go out there. Dude’s invited me out there. So, I’m I might go out there and see. I know. I’m very excited and and do it there and hang hang out in the check out some of the holy sites and just hang out with with these monks and [ __ ] and see what’s going on. See see their uh their Jedi like uh radiances. I can hardly wait. It’s a whole Yeah, it’s a whole different thing. But it’s Yeah, the harvesting is like very, you know, very difficult. Maybe you already know about that. It’s they harvest it from the cleave, you know. Yeah. Right. And they’re there are it’s a mix of free climb and sometimes they’ll have ropes involved, but a lot of it is like super super dangerous. And like it’s not only that they have minimal protection. Like the bees are right. Yeah. Like it’s Oh, it’s crazy. But it would be it would be something to see. And then obviously like the scenery there I’ve heard is also amazing, too. So Well, that’s the thing, right? And yeah, it would be neat to see. And I’d also like to see it on on the modern size just a bit. Like I’d like to see the big city and you know see what’s going on. But really yeah to be in the in the sacred in the mountains and and uh um yeah even like um making music. We’re going to make music there when we go there too. That’d be cool. Yeah. Yeah. That would be very inspirational. Like if especially like any any place like that, even though it it’s it’s so interesting that music you don’t need to physically have your instrument with you or whatever, but you can just be inspired and you can be connected through Yeah. like you don’t have to force it. So like when I went to when I went to BC, like it’s just so inspirational when you see like mountains and you have like all of like the n like the natural aspect of it, right? And it kind of like Well, this is where like a lot for me a lot of my creativity starts there, right? I always I need to get outside every day. It’s part of my nature. I also always been like THC for many years. So, but I get outside every day and I and I write in nature, right? So, most of my stuff is about nature. A lot of my art and or it’s about whatever. It’s about family and it’s about and my channel is like Oh, yeah. Yeah. It’s guys told you. No, I’m I’m gonna I’ll mention to it. He’s actually in on Friday recording. So, yeah, I should connect you guys too. Yeah, be a good person. There’s like um I didn’t I didn’t realize like the community um of people from Nepal that are here and there’s like there there’s a growing community also too. A lot of them play soccer. They’re really good at soccer. Maybe we can find our tablet player.
