With less than three months to the Tokyo Olympics, organisers have held their first discussion with experts to discuss COVID-19 countermeasures. There are concerns in Japan that the healthcare system will be overwhelmed if medical workers are deployed to check on athletes taking part in the Games. The organising committee said it has asked for 500 nurses to be deployed during the Games. That drew outcry from healthcare workers as they are already overwhelmed dealing with the latest wave of infections. Japan has only vaccinated less than 2% of its population.
