The BBC understands he worked as part of a Hamas media team before the war. Al Jazer has denied he had any link with the group. Is it worth responding to? Doesn’t Israel claim that everyone that they don’t like is Hamas? Don’t we need to go thoroughly in what they provide as evidence. We haven’t seen anyone. More than 180 journalists have been killed by Israel in Gaza since the start of the war, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. from Jerusalem. I spoke to their CEO who told me such numbers unprecedented. This is the deadliest conflict for journalists that the Committee to Protect Journalists has ever documented. And we’ve been doing this work for more than three decades. To put it into context, Israel has killed more journalists since the start of this war than were killed worldwide in the preceding three years. That gives you some sense of just how deadly this war has been for journalists. This morning in Gaza, the latest to die were buried. There will be questions about Israel’s justification for killing Al Sharif if he played a relatively minor non-combat role with Hamas several years ago.
