予算1万円だけでハワイ旅行、さすがに物価が高すぎて…

What Can $70 Get in the HAWAII?? Hey guys, it’s Yuuka! I’m in Hawaii right now! Today I’m doing the “$70 in Hawaii” challenge! This is actually my fourth time doing this. I’ve done it before in Vietnam, Taiwan, and Las Vegas. Now it’s time for the Hawaii edition! Hawaii is known to be one of the more expensive places in the US, so I wanna have fun while spending wisely! Alright then… let’s get Waikiki waku-waku! I exchanged ¥10,000 for dollars! Last time in Vietnam, someone commented that flashing cash in public is risky… ※So I learned my lesson and hid it this time I’ve got exactly 70 bucks on me! Gonna see how much fun I can squeeze outta this. It’s 7:57 in the morning right now, and this is like my fourth day in Hawaii. I’m kinda getting used to it now. I found this really cute coffee place the other day, so I’m gonna head over and grab some morning coffee! HONOLULU COFFEE MOANA SURFRIDER The cakes look insanely good too… But I gotta resist… Can I have a drip coffee? KONA? Your name? Suzuki Yuka (full name lol) Thank you So I ordered a drip coffee at Honolulu Coffee! It was about $4… But with everything, it came to around $7. With tax and tip, it ended up being seven bucks! Oh right, tipping is a thing in the US… I kinda forgot about that, oops. I need to factor in tips when I spend money from now on… So $7 is just over ¥1,000… ※A drink for royalty That’s Hawaii for you. But honestly, it tastes amazing. Delishhh But y’know, Hawaii has the ultimate free attraction so let’s go check that out! This is Waikiki Beach! I’ve already been here so many times this trip, but it never stops being gorgeous. If I can enjoy this for free, I could literally spend the whole day here. And I won’t be spending a dime! Maybe I should just stay here forever lol ※This part will probably be all fast-forwarded And over there, you can kinda see Diamond Head! I’ve already seen it like a bunch of times during this trip. Maybe I’ll actually go later? I wanna just stare at the ocean forever, but I’ll totally lose track of time if I do. So let’s move on! This statue here is called the Duke Kahanamoku Statue. It’s of this guy Duke—he was a swimmer apparently, and he even won an Olympic gold medal! They say he helped spread surf culture around the world. That’s awesome. There are soooo many surfers in Hawaii, seriously. ※Known as the “Father of Surfing” who shared it with the world Over there is the Waikiki Walkway! Let’s go check it out! This walkway runs along Kuhio Beach, and it’s a famous scenic spot in Waikiki. From here, you can see Diamond Head and the gorgeous beach all in one shot. Pretty iconic! Wow… Can people jump off from here…? The ocean is just spread out right in front of you like this. And on the other side, you can see Diamond Head so clearly. ※It’s like the view you’d get from a cruise ship. I’m amazed. I wonder if my feet would reach the bottom here… Kinda wanna jump in now. The waves look sooo pretty from here. ※The water’s so clear I can even see the fish swimming Ocean as far as the eye can see. Honestly, I wish I could just stay here forever. But I’ve got more to explore today, so I’ll tear myself away. It was sooo beautiful. Alright, time to head to the next spot! I’ve arrived at an ABC Store! These are like convenience stores that are everywhere in Hawaii. In Waikiki, you can find one every 1–2 minutes just walking. There’s literally no escaping them. Let’s go in and check out some prices! They’ve got cute Hawaii-style clothes like this, and sunscreen of course, plus souvenirs and snacks, and drinks like water and juice, and of course… alcohol too 😏 They even sell fresh fruit, and sushi and onigiri too! And as for the prices… This kind of onigiri is $3.59, which is a little over 5 bucks in Japan. That’s pricey… This big fruit box is $13.99, so that’s like 20 bucks! ※If I buy 5 of these, the challenge is over 😇 They’ve got salads here too, but they’re $9.99 each, which is like 15 bucks back home! My $70 challenge is gonna end real quick… Oh hey! My favorite thing ever! Asahi Super Dry made it to Hawaii too! It’s $2.49 here, so like ¥350. A bit more than Japan, huh? In Japan I could drink two of these! Look at this towel—kinda awesome, right? Might grab it for my dad or someone I owe. It’d make a cool gift! Honestly, now I kinda want one too… Look! I found this super cute cutting board! Since I just got my tiny van back, this would be the perfect souvenir for Papa Clipper! But wait, the $70 challenge… This thing’s gotta be expensive, huh… It’s $16?! Okay yeah, let’s not. Not today. I got myself a HOLO card from the ABC Store! With this card, I can ride the bus as much as I want. It cost me $9.50, but now I can go beyond Waikiki and explore more places! That’s around ¥1,300 in Japan. For Hawaii, I feel like that’s actually kinda cheap? If that covers all my transport for the day, I’ll take it! Now that I’ve got a way to get around… Let’s go hike Diamond Head—because, duh, it’s Hawaii! I already made a reservation and paid $5 ahead of time. But dang… this is a lot… I’ve already walked a ton and I’m exhausted. I wonder if I can make it to the top… Alright, let’s do this! ※Just tap it like a Suica and you’re good to go! Got on the bus! Thank goodness. I was kinda nervous honestly, but I made it on safely! ※The bus is made of two sections—it’s like a mini train ※Also it shakes like a theme park ride lol Pulling this cord means you wanna get off apparently. Also—this bus makes some wild noises. It’s rattling like crazy. Kinda scary. We’re here! Okay, time to hop off the bus! Oh no, I’m gonna get left behind—run!! I walked all the way to the trail entrance. It took longer than expected, honestly. Took me like 30 minutes on foot. I already feel like I climbed a mountain… If I’d used the trolley, the Green Line would’ve brought me straight to the entrance. But that bus costs $20 per person… and that’s not in the cards for me today. If you’ve got the budget, take the trolley! Way easier to get here that way. Anyway, since I already made a reservation, let’s head inside! Doesn’t this look like a Windows desktop background? You can totally use it if you want lol Time to conquer Diamond Head! There’s a visitor center back there too, and they sell souvenirs and stuff. But I’m on the $70 challenge, so nope. I really wanted to buy a hiking hat though… But I gave up 😢 I’ll do my best! (Even though I’m Fitness Level: Potato) The view is already gorgeous! Are we almost at the top already? This might actually be easy! Glad the trail’s not too rough. ※If it stays like this, I just might survive Okay, it’s definitely getting tougher now… I’ve been walking for about 10 minutes. The start was super smooth and easy, but now… It’s rocky and uneven and I’m dying. I didn’t think it’d be this rough… And guess what? I wore sandals today. (Instant regret) I really hope I make it… I keep passing people on their way down. Some are carrying their kids while hiking down—respect. Others have huge water bottles like pros. Compared to them, I guess I’m actually traveling light today. So maybe this is… easier for me? ※My brain and mouth are not in sync Okay, we’ve climbed pretty far now. And the view is seriously incredible! It’s so full of nature and feels amazing. I can really feel the elevation now, and the scenery keeps changing! So it’s actually fun… I think I’m enjoying this! But honestly, I have like zero stamina. Usually I give up halfway through hikes like this… But today I’m filming, so… I’m gonna push through to the top! ※Pretty sure the person behind me thinks I’m super slow Look, I put a camera around my neck! Here’s what it looks like from my POV! Ta-da—like this! Feel like you’re hiking with me? Well, I’m the only one actually dying here though 😇 ※Please cheer me on in the comments, guys Diamond Head is super popular, and the only slot I could book was at noon, so… Yeah. The sun is directly above me right now. Which means it’s CRAZY hot and extra rough… But I’m still having fun! Ooh, what is this place? Made it to a mid-point save spot! Gonna go ahead and save my data. Wouldn’t wanna lose my progress, right? ※Saving often saves your life Wow… the view is stunning! I can see the ocean from here! Gorgeous, seriously. The breeze feels amazing. So nice and cool up here! Honestly, I could stop here and be totally satisfied. But I’ve come this far, so I have to hit the top! Let’s go! Now walking through this Champion-Road-style tunnel. Pretty sure the summit is right on the other side… Almost… at… the… top… I’m dying… Haven’t exercised like this in forever. Anyone here ever climbed Diamond Head? Was it super easy for you? Is it just me being completely out of shape? ※Pretty sure like 30 people have passed me already ※Just a little more… I can do this… Holding the camera is tiring too, so I’m putting it down for a sec. Guys, I just climbed this ridiculously long staircase! Does that mean I’ve climbed the stairs of adulthood too? Almost there. Just a little more to go ‘til the top! I got this! ※Please ignore my hair situation ※The last few steps are insanely steep I made it to the top! Whoa… This view is unreal… Still kinda… out of breath though. But it was totally worth the climb! You get the ocean and the city in one view! And the sky is soooo blue too. This was basically my first real hike and it was rough, but honestly, I had a blast! So glad I made it all the way to the top. Now I feel like I can do literally anything! If I could fly from up here, I’d be down in a second. But I haven’t unlocked that secret skill yet 😅 So I’ll be walking down on my own! But going down should be easier than climbing up… probably. I made it back down to the entrance! Weirdly enough, the descent was harder. It’s because the slope is like this— my toes got totally crushed… I thought my toes were gonna give out. Also I got super thirsty on the way down, and without water, you’re doomed. If you’re climbing Diamond Head, please bring the gift of water— aka “megumi water,” don’t forget it! They don’t sell any on the trail. Most people had their own bottles with them. And after all that working out… it’s time to devour some Hawaiian local food and balance everything back to zero! Alright, let’s go eat! Pioneer Saloon I’ve arrived at a place called Pioneer Saloon! Apparently they serve awesome local Hawaiian food here. Let’s head inside! Aloha! GARLIC AHI STEAK, one. ※He spoke super fluent Japanese! “Is medium rare okay for the steak?” I grabbed lunch from Pioneer Saloon! Then I walked like 10 more minutes and came to Kapiolani Park. Kapiolani Park is super wide open and chill like this. In the distance, there’s a group of elementary schoolers? Looks like they’re doing some kind of PE or something. I think I’ll go sit on that bench over there and eat. This $70 challenge really limits what transport I can use. If I could take Ubers or the trolleys, life would be easier… But for now, I’m stuck with the bus. Getting around is kinda rough. But hey, at least I get to eat tasty food like this! I’m gonna eat now and recharge my energy! Let’s make this my base camp for a bit. Alright, time for lunch! I got the garlic ahi steak. It looks so good! I feel like this $70 challenge has me moving around way more than usual. Since it’s Hawaii, it’s all about being active— lots of walking, lots of adventure. Pretty sure I’ve worked out more than I have all month. Alright then—time to eat! Mmm… so good~ ♪ It’s amazing eating in the middle of this beautiful nature. Pioneer Saloon is run by Japanese folks, so they totally understood Japanese. Apparently, it’s even been featured on Japanese TV, so it’s super popular with tourists from Japan. It’s insanely good… I’d only had coffee so far today, so I was absolutely starving! Okay so… birds started targeting my lunch, so I had to change spots. But now I can see Diamond Head behind me, so honestly, not bad! Uh-oh. Now it’s the bugs… ※This time, fruit flies are after my food The view at Kapiolani Park is amazing, but… once you start eating, birds and bugs just appear. So I think I’ll move again. Fail. Yikes. Moved again to yet another spot. Parks really are full of bugs, huh… Still delicious though. ※Tiny bugs invaded my shirt. SOS. Hey, don’t you think the back of this outfit is super cute? It’s open in the back like this! I bought this in Hawaii too! ※The battle to eat lunch without it being stolen continues… The middle of the park is really scenic and peaceful, but it’s *too* natural—way too many bugs. So honestly, taking food to-go and eating it at the park might not be the best idea. Should’ve just eaten inside the restaurant. Big mistake. I thought, “I’m in Hawaii, I’ll enjoy nature” and eat surrounded by the outdoors… But yeah. It didn’t work out 😓 This steak cost me $25. So that’s about 4,000 yen. Right now I’ve spent a total of $45 so far, which means I’ve got $25 left! Not bad, right? All this fun for just 45 bucks? I think I’m really good at budgeting lol So next I’m gonna head back toward Waikiki, but it’s kinda far from here… Luckily, there’s a certain ride I found, so I’m gonna hop on that to get back! This steak is seriously amazing. Maybe it’s because it’s run by Japanese people? The flavor is totally suited to Japanese taste, so it’s super easy to enjoy! And it’s in a great spot—right on the way back from Diamond Head. Plus there’s a trolley stop right there, so it’s really easy to get to! ※Pioneer Saloon has its own stop That was delicious—thank you! Alright, let’s head back to Waikiki now. The sun’s starting to set a bit—it’s getting golden out. There should be that thing around here… Where is it? Found it! Biki! This is Hawaii’s bike-share service. The colors are so Hawaii—it’s adorable. What does “biki” even mean, though? Biki… biki… Oh wait, I got it! It’s short for “riding biki in a bikini makes people go eek-y” 😆 Looks like you use this machine to rent it. Wait—there’s Japanese language option! Sorry sorry! Miss!! Oops, the price is showing on screen… But from here on out, the price is a secret 😏 Try and guess how much it was, just for fun! ※I’ll reveal the Biki cost later on! Payment went through, so let’s get this Biki ride started! You just enter the number here, and once you input it… it pops open like this! And now I’m good to go! Alright then, let’s roll out! This is fun! ※Totally different vibe from walking Never thought I’d be riding a bike in Hawaii! I kinda wanna go fast and zip around but… It’s my first time so I’ll just take it slow and safe. That car just now had like 4 people riding in the back… Is that even allowed overseas? Pretty sure that’s illegal in Japan. Seeing stuff like that—things you’d never see in Japan—is so interesting! I was actually thinking about trying some other activities today, like something new and fun. I looked it up, and there was this canoe experience— it was $30. But with tips and all that, it would’ve ended up being like $40… Spending over 6,000 yen on just that didn’t feel right for a $70 challenge, so I passed. This time it was a $70 challenge, but… What if it was a $7,000 challenge? With that much, I’d totally fly first class, right? Oh wait—that alone might eat the whole budget… Okay, scratch that. Economy flight it is. What else would I do… I’d love to try staying in a suite room. And I wanna give big tips to the staff— especially the ones who are super nice to me. I’d be like “You’re sooo sweet!” and hand them tips lol And I wanna ride the trolley too, though Uber would definitely be the easiest way to get around. But then again… bikes are super fun too. ※If I weren’t doing a budget challenge, I’d do it all! What else could I do with $7,000… Maybe try a fancy Hawaiian course meal? I didn’t get to try that this time, so if I ever do a luxury challenge, I wanna go all out. Though I doubt a $7,000 challenge will happen… But I still kinda wanna try! ※Was so deep in my fantasy I almost crashed Being in Hawaii makes you wanna try surfing or golf— all those active outdoor sports. Even little kids are doing them! Maybe I could do it too? Is surfing something even total beginners can try? I wonder how that works… ※I’d probably just stay face-down on the board the whole time In Hawaii, people drive on the right side of the road. I’m not used to it at all, so I almost ended up biking on the left side by mistake! The streets in Hawaii are just sooo pretty. I never get tired of looking at them. It’s like every corner looks like a postcard. Stylish and cute everywhere you look. Okay, I think it’s time to return my Biki bike now. There are return spots all over the place, so you can just drop it off wherever—super easy. You just snap it into the return rack like this, and done! It’s returned! Bye bye, Biki! You were so fun! KAI FLESH After all that biking, I got super hot, so I stopped by this place called Kai Fresh right in front of the Princess Kaiulani Hotel. They sell shaved ice here, so I’m gonna cool off with a refreshing one! Aloha! Mini KAI cap, please? ※I’ll reveal the price for this one later too! I got the Mini KAI Cup! And this is the mini size!? It’s huge, right? I wonder how big the regular one is… ※Classic American sizing, lol Alright, time for my long-awaited rainbow shaved ice! It’s overflowing already! This one’s probably mango and strawberry. So sweet and yummy! I’ll share the price of this shaved ice a little later too, so stay tuned! I’ve been keeping track of my spending just in case… I think I’m still okay… maybe? This shaved ice is kinda hard to eat. ※Yeah, just diving in face-first is probably the move. All done! That was so good! I feel way cooler after eating that, so time to head to the next spot! I’ve been looking forward to this one a lot actually. Alrighty, let’s go! International Market Place We made it to the International Market Place! It’s a shopping complex with around 90 stores in total. They seriously have everything. From budget-friendly brands to luxury ones—it’s all here. They also have free hula shows on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday! So I’m gonna go check one out right now! The hula dance show just finished! It was only an hour from 6 to 7 PM, kinda short, but it was sooo much fun! Now I kinda wanna try dancing hula too. Should I start taking classes or something? I’ve come to Waikiki Beach! Everyone’s here to watch the sunset. Even though I’m alone, I think I’ll enjoy it too. Waikiki Beach at this hour is honestly the most beautiful thing I’ve seen. Now I’m on Kalakaua Avenue at night. The sun’s fully set and the whole vibe has totally changed. It looks totally different from what I saw during the day. Even though I walked this road earlier, it feels like a completely new place now. I took a little break and totally lost track of time… It’s already past 9 PM now. Most restaurants here close around 9 PM, so it’s been hard finding a place for dinner. I’ve been walking around looking for one. I wanted somewhere budget-friendly and open ‘til midnight… and I think I found the perfect place! I’m heading there right now. Teddy’s Bigger Burgers Waikiki I’ve arrived at Teddy’s Bigger Burgers! It’s near the Honolulu Zoo, and they serve super big, juicy burgers. It’s a chain, but their prices are actually pretty affordable, so I decided to go with this place! I ordered a burger and Coke combo. Alright, let’s dig in! ※Fueling up The patty is super thick—it looks amazing! Delicious. So good. Ending the day with a burger just feels so right—so American, haha. The flavor is bold, the meat is super juicy and filling— I’m loving it. Alrighty, I think it’s time to reveal the results you’ve all been waiting for. How much did I spend today? Drumroll please… First up, I had coffee for breakfast. That was $7. Then I bought a HOLO card at the ABC Store, which cost $9.50. For lunch, I had Pioneer Saloon— that was $25. Then I rented a biki bike for $5, and after that, the shaved ice was another $5. This burger and Coke combo cost me $15. So the grand total is… $71.50! Honestly, I really did my best… I tried to save money and everything… But by dinnertime, I only had $13.50 left. And it was sooo hard to find dinner within that budget! This was already cutting it super close. I ended up going $1.50 over… which is about ¥215 in Japanese yen. But with America’s tipping culture, you really gotta factor that in. Otherwise your budget calculations just won’t add up. ※Yup… today was totally ruled by tips. Trying this today made me realize— you really have to pick between food or activities. Keeping it under $65 is actually pretty tough. If you focus on food, you can have breakfast, lunch, and dinner you like— though you’ll still need to be a little thrifty. But I think it’s doable even with 65 bucks. If you focus on activities, you could hike Diamond Head in the morning, go surfing in the afternoon, and maybe hop on a yacht in the evening—something like that. So if you stick to just one thing, $65 could stretch pretty far. But I kinda got greedy and tried to do everything, so yeah… I went over budget. Still, the day turned out way more fun than I expected, and even though Hawaii’s known for being expensive, I feel like I was able to show the real deal in this video. So that was my “One Day in Hawaii on $65” challenge! Honestly, I had such a blast doing it. Climbing Diamond Head, soaking in those gorgeous beach views— I got to experience so much. Hawaii’s been on my dream list for ages, and I’ve always looked up to this place. Getting to come here and visit all these spots has made me fall totally, completely in love with Hawaii. If you’ve got fave places to visit or countries you want me to go explore, please let me know in the comments! Thanks for sticking around and watching till the end today!
