The sheer ferocity of the flood took everyone by surprise, sweeping everything before it. The rescuers continue to work in challenging conditions. They’re still evacuating people with local rivers swollen and new flood warnings coming all the time. And now the girls summer camp that bore the brunt of the flood on the Guadalupe River has confirmed what many feared. In a statement, it said that 27 of its campers and counselors were lost in the waters. They said their hearts were broken as they and their families endured this unimaginable tragedy. An image circulating online shows the girls staying in the camp’s bubble in. Among those confirmed dead are Sarah and Renee, pictured here. The BBC has confirmed that six of the girls and one of the counselors have died. And there are concerns for the others who were either missing or thought to be dead. [Music] Praise God. These girls were the lucky ones rescued from Camp Mystic to be reunited with their families. Oh my god. Almost done. Some though are still missing. Nearby, two boys who were at another camp were taken to safety on Friday. Now telling their story of what they endured. Someone told me that when they were walking around uh campgrounds, uh that they saw that cabin 5, which was the cabin right next to Brocks, um their wall had fallen over and my door like like flooded away. State and local officials say they will continue the search until everyone is found, but they’re also facing significant questions about whether there were sufficient warning systems in place for such a catastrophic event as this. There were a number of emergency alerts sent to local residents phones in the hours before the flood by the National Weather Service. Most of them coming in the middle of the night. But questions still remain about cuts to the NWS and whether they could have contributed to the loss of life, something the White House was quick to reject. Blaming President Trump for these floods is a depraved lie, and it serves no purpose. During this time of national mourning, here are the facts. In the leadup to this tragic natural disaster, the National Weather Service did its job. Despite unprecedented rainfall, the National Weather Service executed timely and precise forecasts and warnings. The rivers in the Hill Country can be wildly unpredictable. This CCTV footage sped up shows just how quickly the Yano River overflowed. This whole area is prone to sudden flash floods like this. In this case, with tragic and deadly consequences. 米テキサス州中部を4日未明に襲った鉄砲水による死者数は、7日午後までに100人を超えた。捜索救助隊は、雨と雷雨がまだ続く恐れがある中で、泥にまみれた川岸を歩きながら作業を続けている。だが、災害発生から4日が経過した今、生存者発見の希望は薄れつつある。
当局によると、7日午後までに少なくとも104人の死亡が確認され、41人が行方不明となっている。
洪水の犠牲者のうち少なくとも84人はカー郡で死亡した。84人のうち、56人は大人、28人が子どもだった。
カー郡では、アメリカ独立記念日の7月4日未明に激しい豪雨でグアダルーペ川が氾濫した。郡保安官事務所によると、死者のうち大人22人と子ども10人の身元がまだ確認されていない。
氾濫したグアダルーペ川沿いにあったキリスト教系の女子サマーキャンプ場「キャンプ・ミスティック」は7日、少なくとも計27人の少女と職員が死亡したことを確認した。少女10人とスタッフ1人が、依然として行方不明となっている。
一方、ホワイトハウスは同日、国立気象局の予算削減が災害対応を妨げたのではないかという指摘を否定した。
