“Memoirs of a Geisha” – Movie Review
okay another Rob Marshall movie i mean it may not look as good as his other works like Mary Poppins Returns and Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides but we’ll see what this movie is all about shall we [Music] [Music] yo what is up my cadroids g to the S here today I’m going to be reviewing Rob Marshall’s fourth movie off my bucket list based off of a novel I have not read Memoirs of Agasha set in the 1920s it’s about 9-year-old Chio played by Zuzuka Ogo who gets sold to a geisha house there she is forced into servitude receiving nothing in return until the house’s ruling hierarchy determines if she is of high enough quality to service the clientele men who visit and pay for conversation dance and song after rigorous years of training Chio becomes Sudi played by Zi Zang a geisha of incredible beauty and influence life is good for Scyud but World War II is about to disrupt that piece man it’s always World War II getting in the way of everything but hey I guess that’s how that works in the 1920s right what else can you do about it if it ain’t broke don’t fix it but enough about that let’s get into the real basics here first off in terms of how they executed the story as someone who hasn’t read the novel that this movie was based on as a movie itself if I have to nitpick a bit here the first half kind of felt like a typical Cinderella story which I know that’s the point of the whole movie but for me I have seen this type of story done numerous times in other movies before however I do like the fact that it felt at the very least different there are no mice friends to comfort her there’s no prince that she falls in love with all she wants to do is find acceptance and be treated nicely for once in terms of character development and dramatic emotion there are scenes where Chio/Sud is being tortured and whipped so damn much throughout the beginning half of this movie and I’m sitting there going like damn this is too much for her to handle daddy 5 has nothing on this particular family that’s abusing the poor girl even her older sister was a diabolical person dude i mean throughout the whole movie even when Sayud grew up to be an adult she either pokes fun at her is jealous of her or she just wants to straight up I’m not fooling around ruin her miserable abusive life that she went through and again as an audience member I was like I just so want to punch her in the face dude i’m not even kidding she’s getting on my last nerve i know that the movie is supposed to make you feel that way but what I just felt about her character that was genuine anger that I just felt just by looking at her she gets me heated so much i swear to you guys I almost want to invest into a sniper and just send her straight down to hell if I have the permission to she is the literal worst so with that said kudos to director Rob Marshall and also to writer Robin Sword is how you pronounce it apologies but anyhow kudos to you guys for not only coaching your actors and actresses and portraying their characters and fitting their personalities but also for making me hate her character specifically actually hate her she’s the devil on both the inside and the outside it’s that one time where I wish that her character would just die right then and there and none would be the wiser i honestly don’t care at this point she’s an idiot throughout this whole entire movie i don’t need to say anything else about it call me a savage all you want but that won’t change my opinion about her enough said now if you were to say that there were some action scenes in this movie not to correct you in a rude way or anything but the only action scene that I saw in this movie was the scene where Sci and her older sister are pummeling each other while her room is up in flames that’s it but that was an effective scene and I was shocked that she resorted to that much insanity to the point where she literally got kicked out of her own house and walked away in a fit of rage but I was all like she deserved it i was hoping that she would die but this is a better punishment for her now she’ll understand what it means to be put in her place i kind of like this better so yeah I see your point i was hoping for more action scenes than that but maybe that’s just me expecting something i don’t know point is that was satisfying and I’m glad that Scud is in a much safer and secure place now kudos to the people at Sony Pictures DreamWorks Pictures and Spy Glass Entertainment for creating such intensity in this movie let’s keep this up please now as for the camera work and cinematography I watched this on DVD on standard full screen and the full screen aspect ratio doesn’t do it justice on how rich and large in scope the cinematography for this movie was but still great job to Sony DreamWorks and Spy Glass for operating the cameras and working with them to your advantage keep up the great work now if I were to nitpick this movie a little more here the only issues I feel it could have done better is that the first two acts of this movie were a bit clunky and the pacing could have been done a touch faster but again that’s all the gripes about the film that I can think of but other than that guys in the end Memoirs of Agaca wasn’t the strongest film that I’ve seen as of late but it’s still not considered a bad movie at all i thought it was an entertaining standalone motion picture it’s not something that I would watch again but not to the point where I consider this a mediocre film at all if you people are interested in giving this a try for yourself have at it knock your socks off but for me I rate Memoirs of Agaca three and a half stars out of five not my personal favorite but I’m not going to be that guy who trashes on every movie I see nowadays again I’m a person who sees the good in film i’m a very positive guy just don’t make fun of me for it otherwise I’m going to have to block you if you say some mean vulgar comments on that so just warning you on a side of caution but other than that give this movie a shot and let me know what you think of it so Memoirs of Agasha have you seen it if you have let me know in the In pre-WWII Japan, young Chiyo (Suzuka Ohgo) is sold to a geisha house in Kyoto. Separated from her sister, she endures harsh training and the cruelty of the head geisha, Hatsumomo (Gong Li). A chance encounter with the kind Chairman gives her hope, and with the help of established geisha Mameha (Michelle Yeoh), Chiyo transforms into the celebrated geisha Sayuri (Zhang Ziyi). However, her path is fraught with rivalry, sacrifice, and the bittersweet reality of a geisha’s life, where love remains a distant dream. “Memoirs of a Geisha” is now streaming for free on Tubi, but it’s also available for you to own on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital HD for you to own.
