In Hokkaido, earthquakes occurred almost daily over a period of several days. They ranged from large, long tremors to small ones. with each recurrence, anxiety grew. The decision to purchase a portable power source and solar panels was made that was the reason. The combined weight of the power source and panels is 6 kg, which is somewhat heavy, but they can be used to charge smartphones or provide LED lighting in emergencies. When using them, you spread them out like this. Place the panel in a sunny location. Once the main unit and panel are connected, charging begins. Having this as part of your disaster preparedness supplies can provide peace of mind. And at our home, we’ve decided to use this on a daily basis. For example, a yogurt maker that runs for a long time and consumes electricity. We thought that by utilizing solar power, we could save on electricity costs. Smartphones, flashlights, winter heat packs, and mini fans, etc. I hope it will be useful in my home, which is filled with rechargeable devices. Yogurt made entirely with solar power was a huge success!! This was the first time I experienced consecutive earthquakes in Hokkaido, I realized how naive my approach to disaster preparedness had been. When I opened my disaster preparedness bag for the first time in a while, all the ready-to-eat foods and water expired when I opened it. It was so disappointing. 😭 I felt anxious about someone’s prediction, I too have experienced stockpiling daily necessities and food. What I realized from that experience is that even if you manage to secure supplies and feel temporarily reassured, it doesn’t serve as a long-term solution. I wish for a future without earthquakes, this is something no one can predict. Incorporating disaster preparedness awareness into daily habits the most reliable preparation, don’t you think? Just by switching the power used to make yogurt to solar power, It feels like we’ve become part of the natural cycle. The taste should be the same as usual, but it feels more delicious. 😊 My recent obsession is making kelp simmered in soy sauce. I made it over and over again until I found a recipe I liked. I was surprised when I looked into kelp in detail. Kelp has the highest iron content of any food. After making it many times, I finally found my favorite recipe. It takes a bit of time and effort, but it’s worth it for the delicious result. I’ve included a reference video in the description, so if you have any kelp left over, please give it a try. The rehydrated kelp is surprisingly slippery. Be careful not to cut your hands. For me, seaweed-based ingredients are something that was difficult to incorporate into my daily diet without conscious effort. They help stimulate intestinal movement and aid in fat burning—they’re packed with wonderful nutrients! One week’s worth of kelp tsukudani is complete 🌞 Today’s miso soup ingredient is turnip. I wonder how many I’ve eaten since early spring. 😙 I also add turnip greens and chives from the garden. Finally, I dissolve the miso and it’s done. Continuing from last week, my husband is away on business again this week, so I’m eating alone. I’ll make my favorite onigiri. 🍙 In the past, I never chose kelp as a filling for onigiri. I used to love tuna mayo and tarako. But now, I overwhelmingly prefer umeboshi and kelp. It’s interesting to notice how you’ve changed over time. What’s your favorite onigiri filling? Walking in the forest looking for root-curved bamboo (bear bell is a must 🛎️) I searched for about two hours but couldn’t find any 😭 I decided to just enjoy the nice weather and the walk! I want to pick a lot next year 🎋 I cheered myself up and went to the field to pick herbs. I can feel the plants growing stronger little by little. 🌱✨ Dill grows so fast! I’ll make herb butter. Today, I’ll use it as a snack with strawberries from the refrigerator. 🍓 A friend told me that rosemary and strawberries go well together. Mix the ingredients in a bowl and wait until the strawberries release their juices. You can add strained yogurt or sprinkle salt and black pepper on top for extra flavor. It’s been so warm in Hokkaido that you can get by with just a T-shirt. The refreshing flavor of rosemary goes well with strawberries. I hardly ever catch a cold anymore, unlike in the past. I secretly think it’s thanks to my diet. Health is the foundation of life. My mission is to protect the dining table that supports health! 🍓 The rainy season is just around the corner. See you again next week, full of energy! 🌼
