2025年注目の新作オープンワールドMMO『Dragon Sword』ベータテスト徹底レビュー
Thank you for waiting, everyone This is Daichi from SOCIAL GAME LAB Today, we will talk about one of the most anticipated works of 2025 I participated in the beta test for the new open-world MMO action RPG ‘Dragon Sword’ being developed by the South Korean game development studio HOUND13, and I would like to share an overview of the game along with my impressions from actually playing it I would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported me in participating this time The barrier to participation was incredibly high I truly appreciate you taking the time to engage in this despite being so busy I would have been completely stuck on my own, so this was a huge help I was able to feel the warmth of people beyond national borders once again Thank you very much If you haven’t subscribed to the channel yet, please take this opportunity to subscribe and give a thumbs up to the video So, what kind of game was ‘Dragon Sword’ developed by the Korean game studio HOUND13? Let’s look at it with clear eyes First, let’s start with the usual title overview from Social Game Lab The title is ‘Dragon Sword’, and the release date is still undecided This is an anticipated new title that will undergo a beta test from the end of May 2025 to June 2 The genre is open-world MMO action RPG, developed by the South Korean company HOUND13 The global rollout will be handled by Webzen The supported platforms are iOS, Android, and cross-platform compatibility with PC Now, what is it about this ‘Dragon Sword’ that is attracting so much attention? First of all, the overwhelming graphics created with Unreal Engine 5! It reconstructs the world of classic fantasy with the highest level of beauty in modern times The theme of the story in this work The story summary of ‘The Hero’s Adventure Against the Dragon’ is about a boy named Rute, whose origins are unknown, aiming to become a priest in the royal capital During his journey, he unexpectedly ends up joining a mercenary group for a month due to the suggestion of a mercenary girl named Castella and the leader of the mercenary group, Johnny, marking the beginning of his life as a mercenary Johnny’s mercenary group has individual skills, but due to their rank as an apprentice mercenary group, they are always assigned menial tasks Amidst this, the story will significantly progress from a mission involving the six heroes who left their names in history for defeating the evil dragon It will reveal the truth about the six heroes and the secret of Lyute’s birth The content will unfold with a strong fantasy flavor The story itself leans more towards comedy than seriousness, with Johnny playing the role of the fool and plenty of punchlines within the mercenary group Of course, serious elements are also well incorporated, and the serious parts mesh well with the playful ones, making for a very enjoyable story Players can freely walk around the world from Lute’s perspective and explore the unknown lands Together with my companions, we challenge giant dragons and formidable foes An adventure in search of the ‘truth of the world’ and battles against danger These two elements allow us to fully enjoy the classic appeal of RPGs The biggest attraction is undoubtedly the ‘stunning visuals’ created by Unreal Engine 5! You can freely move through the sky, the sea, and the land as you wish Moreover, you can also explore using the cape, so the excitement doesn’t end with just walking Each character has different actions and combat styles, with a high level of action involving cooperation, evasion, and combos, making for thrilling gameplay that utilizes the know-how developed in ‘Hundred Soul’, enjoyable both solo and in multiplayer Additionally, in multiplayer, there are raid contents where you can cooperate with your teammates to challenge giant bosses There are points of enjoyment unique to MMOs where everyone strategizes together to challenge strong enemies By the way, according to the developer Park Jong-sik, the theme of this work is ‘a return to the roots of classic fantasy and a new challenge.’ Development is progressing smoothly, and it is said that two-thirds of the initial world is already completed I can’t wait for the release! So, here’s a rough overview And now for the long-awaited beta test review, but first, I want to sincerely thank everyone who helped us participate in this beta test Thanks to you, I’m really happy that we can introduce new Korean games to Japanese game fans I will provide a thorough review without any bias Out of the total five and a half days from May 28 to June 2 (AM), I was able to play for a practical four days The story has a considerable amount of content, consisting of five chapters, and to put it simply, while it is somewhat rough around the edges, it offers the enjoyment of an MMO and the freedom of an open world It is a title that also combines an interesting narrative And the games that serve as benchmarks for this are Zelda, Monster Hunter, and Genshin Impact Furthermore, it can be considered a game that combines elements from Dranest and Hundred Soul, built upon the experiences accumulated so far The actions on the field evoke the essence of Zelda and Genshin Impact The battle system incorporates elements from games like Monster Hunter, Dragon Nest, and Hundred Soul Since it takes the best parts from these games, if the minor issues are resolved and everything comes together well, it will be a very enjoyable design So from here, I will share the good points and rough edges of each part First, regarding the story of the social game lab, It takes about 3 hours to read through and clear Chapter 1, and it will take at least 15 hours to clear up to Chapter 5 at the fastest I took longer because I was translating while playing, but I managed to get through Chapter 4 Since I read it thoroughly The story is a classic fantasy with a perfect blend of humor and seriousness The everyday parts feature intense banter and conversations filled with comedy In the mission part, there are jokes and comebacks, but it feels a bit serious In the battle part, there are jokes and comebacks, but it’s quite serious In the serious part, there are no jokes at all, and even characters who usually make silly comments have serious expressions while conversing, creating a contrast Each scene is carefully crafted, making it simply enjoyable There are constant jokes and comebacks, so it’s genuinely funny And since the story is filled with a strong sense of teenage angst, I might really get into it if I were that age Personally, I don’t dislike it, but the content does have a bit of childishness that can’t be denied if the mental age is high I enjoyed the story in that way So, the game starts and the story is good, but… Guidance on tutorials and new features I felt that the tips were quite unhelpful I often felt things like, ‘Huh? I didn’t know this’ or ‘What on earth is this?’ For example, in this work, you can create equipment, but even the same equipment can have different amounts of materials used There were times when there was no explanation for what was different There were often instances where explanations for detailed combos and special operations during combat were either present or absent, which troubled players Next, regarding movement, it has the charm of a classic MMO, where you can jump and dash while exploring the fields By riding a mount, you can dive underwater, glide, and climb Therefore, having a mount is absolutely essential However, there is no problem as you can quickly obtain a free mount There is the hassle of having to stay mounted all the time Also, if you have multiple mounts, it can be a hassle to set the main mount for each character Compared to MMOs or open-world games available today, this mode of transportation can be quite stressful It was a bit interesting that I could dive underwater Next is the development aspect, which functions as a deep gameplay element, allowing characters and equipment to be enhanced with artifacts and runes, as well as limit breaking Using character shards for transcendence and further skill enhancement, among other things The training itself is quite common, so it’s intuitive and feels player-friendly However, I can’t find any content for obtaining the training materials necessary to level up the most important characters I don’t think I’ve overlooked anything, but in the end, this is still the case It seems that the explanations for the tutorial and acquisition routes are unhelpful I was able to obtain character development materials and gifts from the management just by progressing through the story, so it wasn’t a problem, but of course, if it stays like this, it would be bad Furthermore, I was playing without any equipment because it was unclear where to obtain runes Next, let’s talk about the core of the gameplay, which is the battle It offers a refreshing mix of exhilaration, tension, and several new elements, making it quite enjoyable The main attack methods in battle include normal attacks, special attacks, Skill 1, Skill 2, special skills, throws, and grapples Additionally, cooperative attacks are possible, and by combining these elements, you can create quite a diverse battle experience This part truly reminded me of Hundred Soul and Dragon Nest I genuinely enjoyed the throws from combos and the Monster Hunter-like clinging However, when it comes to bosses, as long as you exceed the recommended level, you can defeat them solo quite easily, and the piercing attack after grappling is quite powerful, allowing you to take them down in no time. There is room for improvement in the level design of combat Additionally, the camera work and shaking are quite noticeable, so I believe adjustments in this area are necessary Furthermore, I thought there would be a component of breaking parts Based on my experience during this trial, I didn’t see any such aspects I definitely hope that such elements will be added in the future And to be honest, we couldn’t collaborate There was a language barrier, and I couldn’t reach out in the chat There were also automatic recruitment options available However, I couldn’t find a match and ended up giving up The co-op content implemented this time is designed for play with a small number of players, from 1 to 2 The difficulty itself isn’t very high, so from the perspective of playing solo, it gives the impression that you can surprisingly defeat enemies in just a few seconds In a way, while it is an MMO, the fact that you can enjoy endgame content solo is a positive aspect, but it does feel a bit lacking in challenge Next, regarding end content, there are raid battles with sub-quests and cooperative multiplayer implemented, and while there are few, I believe this will increase in the future As for the sub-quests, there isn’t anything particularly distinctive about them By clearing them, you can earn special coins that can be used to purchase育成素材 (development materials) and mounts, so it feels like you progress through the story while doing so The cooperative multiplayer is designed at a level where it can be cleared solo, so I feel that some adjustments to the difficulty are necessary By clearing it, you can obtain materials for equipment crafting, making it a compelling element for collecting the desired gear This collecting element is currently focused solely on gathering equipment The equipment has a mechanism where slots for runes are randomly assigned during creation Therefore, if the equipment has no slots, the character’s traits cannot be maximized I get the impression that obtaining slot equipment is quite connected to putting in a lot of effort I feel like this is a common element around here Next is the monetization element that I’m curious about This time, only gacha has been implemented, and there are no shops for purchases, so the prices of stones are unknown Regarding the gacha, it’s a mixed bag of characters and artifacts The probabilities seem to be such that it feels relatively easy to obtain characters It seems that starting from the third day of the beta test, the rates changed specially, and there was a generous flow of ★5 characters At the time of the release, this was unimaginable, and I think the currently known emission probabilities will serve as the basis Even so, it’s still somewhat possible to obtain characters If you want characters probabilistically, it feels good to spin the regular gacha Yes, I’ve been going on about the good points of each part up to this point I’ve shared my concerns, but to summarize my impressions of the game, it still feels like the release is a long way off For now, it feels like we’re in a situation where the game is playable, somewhere between the alpha and beta versions There are bugs, and fine-tuning is necessary, along with the lack of end content and the need to revise the tutorial for movement methods that rely on mounts There are still many rough edges, and it seems like there will be plenty of fixes needed It feels closer to an MO than an MMO While there is interaction with other players in the city, you don’t encounter anyone in the field, and there isn’t really a concept of roles in battles, which in that sense can be said to be similar to Genshin Impact This type of game design is currently quite prevalent, leading to a major congestion among AAA titles The uniqueness lies in the battle system, but other games also put effort into their battles and are enjoyable I felt that if we challenge them now, it might not turn into a proper match and could end badly Since we can do things like cling on and perform aerial combos, I think it would be interesting to face high-difficulty boss battles against large bosses like in Attack on Titan with 20 or 30 people I also feel that if there are certain roles assigned, it might become something different I think there are company policies regarding the release timing, but I have the impression that it might take another two years to bring out something good This time, the Social Game Lab has brought you a beta test play review of ‘DragonSword’, currently being developed by the Korean game development studio HOUND13 How did you find it? There are plenty of elements to look forward to, so I hope we can gather opinions from this beta test and look forward to future improvements The story is guaranteed to be good So, for those who haven’t subscribed to the channel yet, please take this opportunity to subscribe and give a thumbs up to the video Thank you for watching this time, and we’ll see you next time Look forward to the next episode!
