ウクライナ政府は1日、ロシアとの戦争が始まって以来最大規模となる長距離攻撃を実施したと発表した。ウクライナ保安庁（SBU）が主導したこの作戦では、ロシア国内に密かに搬入したドローン（無人機）で、ロシア国内4カ所の軍基地に配備されていた軍用機40機を標的としたという。
ウォロディミル・ゼレンスキー大統領は、SBUによる「クモの巣」作戦で無人機117機が、「ロシアの戦略巡航ミサイル運搬機の34％を攻撃した」と述べた。
SBU消息筋はBBCに、この作戦の準備には1年半かかったと説明。移動式の木製コンテナに隠した無人機を、遠隔操作で屋根が開くトラックに搭載して、攻撃目標の空軍基地近くまで運び、適切なタイミングで発射したという。
ロシア政府は、国内5州がウクライナに攻撃されたことを認め、これを「テロ行為」と非難した。
