【北海道→茨城】豪華フェリーさんふらわあの最安個室で19時間の船旅、過酷な船酔いに耐えきれずに…
Hey guys, it’s Yuuka! Right now, I’m in Tomakomai, Hokkaido. I’m about to head from Hokkaido to Oarai Port in Ibaraki. Today I’ll be taking the Sunflower Sapporo ferry to get there! I’ve taken this route in reverse before just once. But this is my first time starting in Hokkaido, so I’m kind of nervous but super excited! Alright, let’s get my ticket and head over to the boarding area! So this time it’s a ferry ride from Tomakomai to Oarai! Last time I got totally seasick… so this is my redemption trip! Found it—the boarding counter! It’s on the first floor. *Even if you booked online, you still need to pick up your ticket at the counter. I’ve got my ticket now! My room this time is a Comfort type. Right now it’s 5:14 PM, and boarding starts around 5:30 apparently. So boarding should begin soon! We don’t set sail until 6:45 PM, so there’s still plenty of time before departure. Since I’ve got a bit of time to kill, I’m heading to the Port Museum on the 3rd floor. I’m literally the only one here. It kind of feels like school after hours. They’ve got models of the ferries that dock at Tomakomai Port on display. Each one has its own little highlights listed too. My goal is to see all of them! The view from the 3rd floor is actually pretty nice. Definitely check it out if you get the chance! We are now starting the boarding process! If you’ve already checked in, drivers of cars and motorcycles, please return to the vehicle boarding area. It’s boarding time now, so I’m heading to the boarding gate. Ah! I can see it! That one over there—that’s the Sunflower Sapporo! What’s this one, I wonder? Kitakami! I’ve never been on that ferry before. Looks interesting… It’s probably been about half a year since my last trip. It’s been a while since I last rode this ferry. I got super seasick the last time I was on it. Back then I took a candy-type motion sickness medicine… but today I brought the regular tablet kind instead. Fingers crossed I won’t get sick! Still feeling kinda anxious though… Oh, that’s the Sunflower Kamui! I’ve always wanted to try that one! But it was fully booked this time, so I couldn’t reserve it. Next time for sure! This boarding walkway is suuuper long… So far away… (_๑´д`) Yay! I made it on board safely. Now I need to find Comfort room 5C03. There’s a sign! Comfort rooms are this way. Found 5C03! I’m going into room 17 now. It’s been a while since I’ve stayed in Comfort. Here we are! Room 17—this is what it looks like inside! *Very unique way of measuring the bed, lol Gonna drop my stuff here for now, then go explore the ship a bit! Now that I’ve dropped off my stuff, I’m off to wander around the ship! There’s still about an hour until we set sail, so the ferry isn’t moving yet. Perfect time to sneak around and explore! *Wandering Wacky Chick Mode: ON Since it’s Golden Week, there are all kinds of fun events on board today! I’m super excited for that too. Maybe I should sing the Sunflower Ferry theme song myself? *That’s how you get banned for life. Uh-oh… it didn’t take long… I already stumbled upon the game corner. Wait, hold up—there’s Pokémon here!? They’re soooo cute. Ugh, they’re really hard to grab though… *I need a travel buddy—just one Pokémon, please! If I keep going, I won’t have money left for dinner… Time to abandon ship—hard to port! I tried catching Ditto, but I got nada in return. I’m bummed out, but I’m retreating to go grab dinner instead! *That moment when you lose your money and your soul When you think Sunflower Ferry, it’s gotta be the onboard buffet! Dinner + breakfast set costs $22. Kento, please remember to get your receipt. (Calling you out, lol) Here’s what’s on the dinner buffet lineup! Totally different dishes than when I last rode! Everything looks so good—I can’t stop tonging stuff! By the time I get off the boat… I’ll probably weigh a few tons more. Oh well—no holding back tonight! The menu’s packed with stuff that kids (like me) would love—perfection. Even the salad section is full of goodies—nice touch! Got my plate all ready! Plan is: get tipsy on beer before the motion sickness kicks in! Alright then—cheers! If you board early, you can eat dinner before we even leave the port, so you don’t have to stress about seasickness! When the boat’s not moving, it totally feels like a normal restaurant. I seriously forget I’m on a ferry right now. Quick refill of my beer, of course. I’m fully prepared for a fun, fuzzy night of good vibes. *All you fun drunks out there—take notes! They’ve even got ramen now, which wasn’t here last time! And it’s seriously amazing— way beyond what you’d expect from a meal on a ferry! I’m riding high on tasty food and pure joy! If only I knew what trials were coming after this… At this point, I had no idea what was waiting for me. Thanks for the meal! It’s almost time to set sail, so I’m heading out to the deck to check the view! Here’s what it looks like from the deck— the sunset over Tomakomai is absolutely stunning. And we’re off! The Sunflower is leaving Tomakomai! We’ve got 19 hours of sailing ahead. Half excited, half nervous… Just hoping I don’t get seasick again. But the sun’s on my side, so I should be fine… I think? It’s freezing… *Retreating immediately An hour after departure… I did NOT expect this much rocking. I can barely stay standing! Ughhh I feel awful… The ship’s rocking like crazy! This is my 10th long-distance ferry trip, and this is definitely the worst it’s ever rocked. Apparently, the waves are super rough right now. Even my motion sickness meds are no match for this. This is seriously not good… There’s supposed to be a magic show later on the ship, but there’s no way I can make it there. I’m just gonna chill in my room and lie low. It’s hard to show through the camera, but— we’re rocking up, down, left, right… It feels like I’m riding a giant balance ball. I need to reset my stomach ASAP, so I’m gonna lie down and try to recover. *Revenge failed. Early this morning, I looked out the window and saw rough waves. The glass was soaked—either rain or seawater, not sure which. Good morning! I totally passed out from seasickness yesterday… and next thing I knew, it was morning. Still feeling a little queasy… It’s 8:08 AM right now. I thought I slept a ton, but there’s still 6 hours until we reach Oarai! So from here on out, I’m gonna enjoy every second! Here’s some exciting news: the magic show I missed yesterday is actually happening again today! Off to the Promenade on the 5th floor I go! Maybe the magician can make my seasickness disappear too? *Pretty sure that costs extra. Wow… He’s doing tricks to the Aladdin theme— definitely not beginner-level stuff! After enjoying the magic show, I headed over to the breakfast buffet! I paid $9 for it, so I’m determined to get my money’s worth. This morning’s spread leans more towards traditional Japanese dishes. There were things like simmered herring and chikuzen-ni. *Bonus points for having natto—my favorite! Here’s what I got for breakfast! I locked eyes with the Sunflower Curry, so naturally I piled my plate high with it. This curry is seriously delicious. I’m clapping from how happy I am— and now I’m clapping in rhythm like a metronome. *With my bad pronunciation, it sounds like “sleepy no-brain mode,” lol The rocking last night was seriously intense— waves were crashing like WHOOSH nonstop. It’s calmed down quite a bit now though. That’s why I took another motion sickness pill before bed. Then I passed out. Feeling way better this morning! This curry is dangerously good… Pretty sure this is what healing feels like. The soft-boiled egg? Perfection. Thanks to all that curry, my seasickness is finally letting up! I even feel up for enjoying the view from the window now. There’s just something magical about breakfast at sea. Thanks for the meal! Time for a post-breakfast walk— gonna explore more of the ship. Now that I’m full, I’m heading to the observation deck on the 6th floor. When I checked around 5 AM, it was drizzling a bit, but as you can see, the rain’s cleared up and the calm sea stretches out ahead. The wind is still strong, but I can barely feel the boat rocking anymore. Next up, I’m heading to the shop I missed yesterday! There’s something specific I’m looking for, and I’m determined to get it! The shop is basically begging you to drink— there’s a mountain of tasty snacks everywhere! And in the fridge, there’s beer, fruit liqueurs, and all kinds of drinks lined up, ready to go. They also sell souvenirs from Ibaraki and Hokkaido, and limited-edition Sunflower merch too! But that’s not what I’m here for today… I finally got my hands on the Sunflower Sapporo ship stamp! Lately I’ve been into collecting these stamps, so I’m definitely taking this one home safely. *Today’s prize Here’s the ship’s floor map. The 7th floor is dedicated to suite rooms only. They start at around $340 one-way, and apparently they even have balconies! *Definitely wanna try it for some special occasion. This Tomakomai to Oarai route turns 40 this year! It’s been running since 22 years before I was even born… That’s actually pretty impressive. Only 5 hours and 30 minutes left until we reach Oarai Port. Right now we’re cruising off the coast of Sendai. After 14 hours on this ferry, it’s starting to feel like home sweet home. This is technically the ocean, but it feels like my backyard. Found this bear with a very unique way of looking seasick. Looks like he lost some weight since I last saw him… And over here we’ve got the classic— captain cosplay corner! Yeah, I think I’m good without dressing up this time. *Wait, what? Long time no see, everyone. Captain Suzuki reporting in! I was totally down from seasickness yesterday… I didn’t sleep 4 times… it was more like 8. Apologies! *A captain like this? No thanks. Now that I’ve completed my important captain duties, I’m heading to that one place for a break— the observation bath! In the morning it’s less crowded and the view is better—totally recommended. Alright then, off to take a relaxing bath! Post-bath? Time for the massage chair! It costs money, but once you sit down, you won’t wanna get up—it’s that comfy. *Way better use of money than a claw machine ◎ The observation bath was amazing, by the way. They even had a shampoo buffet, and I had the whole place to myself. So I just chilled, watching the ocean alone. That’s a true captain’s privilege. *Abuse of power, probably *Gonna relax for a bit now It’s been about 16 hours since we left Tomakomai, and we’re finally getting close to Oarai. Still 2.5 hours left until arrival, so I’m holing up in my room for a while. This is my second-longest trip ever—19 hours on board! Honestly, I’ve run out of things to do… And since I got plenty of sleep yesterday, lying down all day isn’t an option either. Just in case, I went to the counter and grabbed a free pair of earbuds. Watching TV helps time fly by, right? Or so I thought… The signal’s super weak, and it’s all glitchy. Nooope 😩 And my phone’s got no service, so no YouTube either. Checkmate. I’m defeated. Guess I’ll just sip some milk quietly and accept my fate. It’s 11:30 now, and café time just started in the restaurant, so I’m here to devour some cake! *When you’re bored on a ship, eating is the answer Here—have a virtual bite through the screen! It came at the perfect time, refreshingly sweet and sour—a total mood booster. The cake was just too good, and I was just too bored, so I randomly filled out the ferry survey. *Too bored to function at this point After a while, I stepped out onto the observation deck, and spotted a Japan Coast Guard ship sailing by. At first, I panicked thinking something had happened! Turns out it was part of a Golden Week event! *This is my 10th ferry ride, but it’s the first time I’ve seen that! *A helicopter even joined in, opened the door, and waved at us! Two hours flew by in a flash, and now it’s almost time to disembark. I thought the ride felt super long, but now that it’s ending, I’m kinda sad to leave. Thanks for the 19 awesome hours! Sunflower Sapporo, I’ll definitely be back again someday. *They changed the Sunflower theme song and I can’t sing it anymore ( i _ i ) Thank you very much for sailing with the Sunflower Sapporo. We truly appreciate it. We will be docking shortly at Oarai Port. We’ve arrived at Oarai Port in Ibaraki! So today, I took the Sunflower Sapporo ferry from Tomakomai Port in Hokkaido all the way to Oarai in Ibaraki. And honestly, it was such a fun trip! The Sunflower Sapporo has amazing facilities, and the interior is super clean and comfortable. But I did get hit with some pretty rough seasickness again… Last time was bad too, and this time I got just as queasy—maybe even worse. From last night to early this morning, I was pretty much knocked out. But compared to yesterday, the sea was a lot calmer today. So I got to enjoy both breakfast and lunch, which was nice! The large public bath was super spacious too, with a shampoo bar and everything. They even had toner and all kinds of toiletries— I thought that was such a thoughtful touch. And since it was Golden Week today, there were lots of special events— like the magic show, and even a Coast Guard ship and helicopter passed by! I’m so glad I got to see all that. Oh, and the signal was out for over 10 hours… Maybe even more? About an hour after departure, I lost all connection and couldn’t get it back. So a little tip: download my YouTube videos ahead of time just in case! Seriously—do it if you’re planning to ride this ferry. Thanks so much for watching today’s video all the way to the end! Please like, comment, and subscribe! Pretty please, pretty please, pretty please! Okay then—bye-bye! See you again soon!
