Liszt: Liebesträume Nr.3【Violin and Piano performance】|Eimi Wakui
Franz Liszt (1811- 1886)’s Liebesträume No. 3 is a beautiful masterpiece that represents the Romantic era, and it is a deeply moving work centered around the theme of “eternal love.” Originally composed as a song, the piece is based on the poem “O lieb, so lang du lieben kannst” by the German poet Ferdinand Freiligrath, which conveys the message, “Love with all your heart while your beloved is near, for it will be too late to regret once they are gone.” Liszt reimagined the world of this poem as a solo piano composition, elevating it into delicate and passionate music that evokes memories of love, as if they were dreams.
The piece begins with a quiet and gentle melody, with a soft, whisper-like tune that beautifully resonates between the piano and violin. As the music gradually intensifies, it builds toward a passionate climax. Even within the grand and powerful expression, Liszt’s distinctive lyricism and romanticism shine through. In the final section, the opening melody reappears, leaving a serene aftertaste, as if the memory of love is being repeated in a dream.
In this performance, we present Liebesträume No. 3 in a violin and piano arrangement. The interplay of the violin’s lyrical expression and the piano’s rich, resonant sound brings out the nuances of the melody and the emotional fluctuations in an even more profound way. May this music, which contemplates both the fleeting and eternal nature of love, gently touch your heart as well.
