Vocalise Op. 34, No. 14 – Rachmaninoff【Violin Performance】|Eimi Wakui

Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Vocalise” Op.34 No.14 was originally composed in 1934 as a wordless vocal piece, and later arranged for violin and piano. This work is characterized by a melody that is played as if sung, without lyrics, showcasing Rachmaninoff’s rich harmonies and emotional expression.

The violin carries the main melody, playing in a vocal style, while the piano supports the accompaniment and sometimes plays independent melodic lines. The piece is gentle, occasionally dreamlike, and often evokes a sense of melancholic beauty.
The melody, especially as played by the violin, flows effortlessly, expressing emotion as though there were lyrics. Rachmaninoff’s distinctive harmonies and rhythmic sense make this short composition deeply moving.
