The torch relay for the delayed Tokyo Olympics has started.

The event kicked off in Fukushima, the area hit by the 2011 earthquake. It marked the start of a four-month countdown to the summer Games in Tokyo.

The ceremony was closed to the public due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The first runner with the torch was Azusa Iwashimizu, a player from the Japan team that won the Women’s World Cup in 2011.
