ファイアーボーイズ ~め組の大吾~ | FIRE BOYS – Megumi no Daigo Episode 2 [English subtitled]
"That day, we threw our hats high into the air. " "I’d finally become a fireman. " "But, my first mission was a terrible memory. " I can’t. "Under the fire’s pressure, I was only a weakling. Pitiful. " "Powerless and useless. " "Only the sound of the all-clear report" "was ringing in my ears that morning. " Daigo… gently, gently, okay? Oy, doing that rope-less is really okay? Shut up. Come here… Goro-kun. Goro-chan! You’ll be fine! Mama is here, be strong! Goro-kun… come here. Goro-kun. Alright! He did it! He did it, he did it! I got him. Goro-chan! So great! Come, come here quick. Goro-chan, big brother, tell big brother thank you. Thank you so much! You’re our savior! What kind of rescue was that? It was only saving a cat on a roof! Why so upset? Cat or not, it was a good deed. Yeah, but firemen fight fires… – What’s wrong with saving a cat? I saved a dog once. A dog. – Huh? Scorpions, too. Pet owners can be so careless. So, a fireman’s job isn’t limited to fire fighting. Captain, wait to be served, please. – Our job includes pet-rescues, and toxin and oil cleanups, right? Right. Whatever it takes to protect property and public safety. Yeah, but why me? You should be more grateful! The chief forgiving your mistake. Almost fired, weren’t you? You… should resign now. You… could kill… people. – Emergency alert. Place: Akebono Boshi, section 1; – Trash fire reported. – Move out! Please move back. It’s good the fire didn’t spread. Hakase, your opinion? Appears the fire started at the bottom. But, this stuff isn’t flammable. And there’s this piece of burnt newspaper. An 09? "09?" – Arson fire. Now that you mention it, this has happened before, right? It was outside our area, though. Also, the cause of the school fire hasn’t been found, right? The police are still investigating it right now. Arson? If it was arson, I’ll nail that jackass! Now, now, now, I know how you feel. This is best left to the police. Yeah, but… – Yes. Ah, Megumi. Thanks for your help. – Morita. Police responding so fast. Nice to see. What the? You became a fireman? Punks can become firemen, huh? Hey, cordon off the area. What’s this about? Your guys could be trampling evidence! Especially this pile of scum. Now leave. Go back. Go back. We’re going back! – But…! We’re going back. What you’re feeling, we’re feeling, too. Hey… Move, please. Arson? The school was set on fire by the same person? Well, it hasn’t been proven. – What the heck? Just totally catch him. – Yeah! Brother, you must catch the guy. Firemen could investigate alone? Uh… well. Awesome. Do it, senior. He’s so cool. – Seriously. Daigo-kun! Teacher Shizuka! – Hello. Teacher, Kaikuz-san? Being discharged next week. – Next week? I’m glad. But then I won’t be allowed on school grounds. He gave me a message. "From now on, ONLY outsiders aren’t allowed. " Pretty nice, huh? What the hell? I want to catch that jackass. What should I do? Oy, oy, oy, oy! Careful with your cigarette butts. – Who are you? A Megumi fireman. – Fireman? So what? Prevention, prevention. This ignites, then what? Here, here, here. Minors shouldn’t smoke, right? Cut the crap, moron! You idiot, we’ll show you! Quit it, you! – You! You jerks! Ouch! Gotta be kidding. Yikes. What happened to your face? A fireman brawling? What’s up with that? Advising them is good, but are you overcompensating for your recent mistakes? That’s not it. – Well, chief only wanted to fire you out of anger, don’t take it so hard. Look… there he is. This won’t work. How many times must I tell you? Sorry, Chief Gomi. I forget. – You can’t forget. If these catch fire, disastrous. – I’ll clean it, I’ll clean it. What’s he doing? – Teaching fire prevention. He does it everyday around town. Been doing it for years. When I first heard, I was surprised, too. So… you’re not the only one. Everyone strives to protect this place from fire. The captain and Hakase, too. Sorry, but move back, it’s dangerous here. Daigo, move the people further back. The fuel tank might blow. Please move back, move back, danger, move back! Begin spraying! Move back! What a waste. It was an expensive bike, too. Huh? This mirror is strangely missing. That’s true. Malfunction wasn’t the cause. Another 09, right? Captain! Another fire!. This time it’s near the shopping district. Unit 1, you remain here. Unit 2 with me. – Yes! Sir… didn’t we ask you to clean this up earlier? So sorry! – Listen, if these boxes stay here, they could add to our work. Yes! Why are there so many gawkers? Herd followers. There’s nothing to see. Move back, please stay back. Hey, you’re slacking, keep stacking. [Episode 2] There were 5 arson fires today? Yeah. Didn’t even have time to eat. It was rough. – Terrible. Hey… the culprit hasn’t been caught? I’m so worried, worried, I can’t even sleep. Grandma isn’t sleeping well at all. – 10 arson fires in 2 weeks… Grandpa… I’m scared. Hopefully, he’ll be caught soon. – Looking at the distance between the fire scenes and residences… – Over there. – Come on, hurry! – Mrs. Ohaya’s house? What’s going on? – Come, come! Ohaya-san’s dog house is on fire! Ohaya-san’s dog…? Bunta’s girlfriend. Bunta! Move aside, move aside. My dog, my dog, in there! – Calm down, calm down. An extinguisher. – Thanks. Move back! Move back, please! Back! Jiru? – She’ll be okay. Jiru… – She’ll be fine. Please step back. Thank you! Thank you, Daigo-kun! I’m so grateful. Bunta… it’s okay. She’ll be alright. I must… catch this guy. This is… – I saw someone in a blue jacket run away. – What’d he look like? – He was tall, had an athletic body. – Which direction did he go? That guy! Hey, don’t run! You set the fire? – Get off me! What are you…?! Idiot! The person you caught was an undercover cop! See the trouble you’ve caused? We’ve gotten warned, warned by the cops! Tried to catch the guy, but got caught yourself. Do you see everyone as a villain? Mistaking a cop for a villain is inexcusable, you know? Anyone with a brain would know he was an undercover cop. Villains often return to lurk at the scenes of their crimes. Exactly! Now he’s probably gone into hiding, what can we do? The cops are pissed! Never act on your own again! Got it? Sorry. Here… energize yourself. Hey, it’s true a witness saw the culprit? Yeah. He said the guy wore a blue jacket. I got distracted by the suspicious cop, though. Blue jacket…? Speaking of blue jackets, I heard one mentioned at another fire site. Ah, right, I heard that, too! Then maybe he’s the cop’s prime suspect. Blue jacket? A tall man… an athletic body? What’s wrong? Nothing. Hey… what can we do about this? What do you mean? Like giving flyers to the public. Warning them about the blue jacket guy. But, captain said don’t get involved. Captain said that, but I can’t sit around doing nothing. And even the chief is proactive in prevention. Yes, but… I want to do this, too. Help prevent fire disasters! – Help prevent fire disasters! Please. Please. – Please help! Please help! Hey, were any crime scene photos taken? Our Records Dept. should have the reports, but… why? It’s just a hunch. Yazawa! This, these, put them up! And those, too! – Yes! Yo, Daigo! How are you, captain? What are you doing here? Well, I need to ask you something. – Hmm… but, long time no see, huh? Oh, but I have seen you a lot lately. The arson scenes, I saw you there. "Action junkie," you know? That’s why I went. Whenever I’d see you, you were always so committed, somehow I felt like a shameful bum. So I didn’t talk to you. Is that so? So, what is it? Well… Me? – Well, um, you’ve always worn blue jackets and mouth covers. But that’s no reason to suspect me. So why did you really? This… is a piece of newspaper found at the last fire site. Dated May 2001. I don’t know the exact date, but there’s a picture of you. Ah, the good old days! Wasn’t this our district championship? You… scored 2 goals that day, long distance shots. You got invited to the Pros, too. – Hey, you, how does this make me a suspect? As you know, I left soccer with an injured knee. That’s nothing to be ashamed of, though. Right? Of course not. By the way, this guy burnt our school, right? How could I possibly burn that school? I had the… best times of my life there. Day after day, I would run on that field. But… you can’t really understand that now. Uh… I’m sorry. I wasn’t saying you did it, just had to make sure. Believe me. What is this? Who gave you permission, huh? What’s wrong with it? Maybe someone saw him, and it’s just a type of fire prevention… Fire prevention flyers are fine, but, no "suspects," "blue jackets," etc, what are we going to do?! You know… the police know about his attire, but didn’t announce it. It was either too flimsy evidence or they intentionally didn’t announce it. What do you mean? If I were that guy, I’d be heading for the hills now. The mass media will create a circus out of this, too. Hey, now… – Asahina! Bastard, didn’t I tell you not to interfere…?! What are you doing? – Inspector Morita! About the flyers, I’m so sorry! "Flyers?" Huh? Inspector Morita? You actually came to this small, dirty place. A real pleasure. Takaima, some tea, please? Gomi-san. – Yes? What are your underlings up to? – "Underlings?" What did our little buddy do? This kid met up with our prime suspect. We couldn’t act because it was just surveillance. Ah, so troublesome. If the suspect goes inactive, what will we do?! We’ve insufficient evidence and must catch him in the act, you know? What do you mean "in the act?" You’re saying you want more fires?! – So what?! "So what?!" What the…? – Sorry about that. There are several dumb kids here. I’ll handle them accordingly. – Chief! So, I sincerely apologize. Anyway, please don’t let this happen again. Chief… why’d you bow to him?! What’s his problem?! As long as the guy’s caught, it’s okay to burn things down? That man… has always been a cold-blooded prick. You don’t understand what you did wrong? Their duties are their duties to do. Firemen and policemen, clearly their duties… are different. My last warning. Happens again, you’ll be punished. Got it? I can’t accept it. It’s totally unreasonable! I agree. – I really don’t know, but… But… it’s true we have our own duties to do, right? We, too, are protectors of the public. Shouldn’t we be working together? Well… your stance is reasonable, I thought that way once, too. But… they’re police officers. Not gonna happen. Though… they’re public protectors, their main goal is to solve crimes. The outcome matters most. Well, forget them. Let’s party, vent, and relax! Let off steam. Yeah, I’ll do fire magic tricks. "Forgetting them" won’t help at all! You guys aren’t locals, so maybe you don’t know. Now all of the residents are scared of this firebug. Their treasured things being burned scares them. The danger to their families scares them. They’re so worried they can’t sleep! The police declare it, so we do nothing? As firemen, it’s shameful cowardice! I’m not backing down. I’m continuing my "prevention. " Gonna catch that arsonist. Punishment, I don’t care; punishment comes afterwards. You think… chief is really angry at you? Firemen… we all eat together, sleep together, just like a big family. So the chief is our "dad. " He is… concerned for our safety, and this family isn’t different from any other. He isn’t siding with the police. He doesn’t want us hurt confronting a dangerous criminal. That’s how it is. Hell, there I go running off at the mouth again. Help prevent fires! – Please. Please! Please help! Help prevent fires, please! Definitely gotta catch him. Uncle, got a minute? – Yeah, sorry about last time. What? What can I do? – About that guy, did he use a newspaper to start the fire? Dunno, I couldn’t see. So cold. Never knew lurking was so hard. There’ve been no new cases, right? I guess we truly sent him underground. I say that’s fine, then. Huh? I’m thankful for no new fires. So the rest of the case, we can leave to the cops. Daigo, look! Hey, what’re you doing, bastard?! Stop running! Daigo, be careful! Don’t overdo it! Didn’t I say stop running?! Stop running! Hey, give up already. Hey… w… w… wait, wait a minute. I’m sorry… I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Sorry… – So, the guy’s been caught? That’s wonderful, isn’t it? And this?! – Crying, I can’t understand you. An old newspaper and a blue jacket? Captain, I was wrong to suspect you. It’s fine. You proved me innocent; very helpful. No, it was nothing. – So, anyway, you have caused me a lot of grief, from before. Like during our games, hell-bent on breaking the rules. Yeah, but, only after they broke them first… You’ve always been so emotional. That’s good, and bad. I… need a pit-stop. Okay to use your toilet? There and to the right. Excuse me. Damn, it’s cold. Toilet, toilet… This one! Wrong. Whoa… our old shoes! Such memories! [Jiru] [Cultural Week] It can’t be… You got me. My souvenirs. Like collecting star sand. (Star-shaped sand from Okinawa) Taking the other team’s jersey after a game. Why? "Why?" Hey… Morita-san. – Huh? I think this guy isn’t who we’ve been after. He’s not the one, just a copycat. After seeing a flyer, he bought a blue jacket and started the fire. Could happen. – Also, his mouth cover is much different from the arsonist’s and from the one seen in the suspect’s workshop. Alright, get us a search warrant; we’ll raid the workshop. But also… that Megumi boy is there right now. Troublesome little bastard! Inspector… big trouble! Captain. Why? You’ve all… achieved your dreams, right? Hey… hey… look at my fucking knee!!! No Pros soccer for me. No one really gives a damn about me anymore. Just getting this job was hard for me. Struggled so hard to get here, yet my boss, everyday, everyday berates me. A harsh job that pays little. No more… dreams, anymore. So then… so burning those places? Because it was exciting! With my little fires, everyone freaked out. And it’s cool seeing things burn. The school? – Yeah. I did that. I only lit a trash can. Who knew it’d ignite the whole school?! Big score! What will you do? Hey… I’ve been patient with myself far too long. Huh? Leaving here. Why’s Daigo in there? – Dunno, you’ll have to ask him. – The situation? You guys stay here and await instructions. Do not interfere! I understand. The police have the lead. Ready the hoses. Yes. Not gonna run? Senior… senior… do you know why I believed you so easily? You never broke game rules. ALWAYS abided by the rules. No matter what the problems, no matter what the provocation, you continued the game. You, senior, were my hero back then! After training, you’d clean up the field. Before games, you’d clear the field of dangerous rocks. Polished balls to a shine. Even mended our clothes so great. We… when we heard you were working, we secretly came here. – Huh? We wanted to surprise you at your new job. But… we didn’t dare in the end. I was seriously pathetic, huh? You were being yelled at then, but… no matter what he said to you, you still went on working. So, senior… you were seriously awesome. The Pros or not, you were still the same guy we’d always known. To me, you’ll always be a role model! Please don’t betray us. Please don’t disappoint us like this. I… I… It’s… too late. Suicide would disgrace you! And… and it’s breaking the rules! For your actions, accept responsibility! No way I let you die. Never. Sir, the media has arrived. Let’s end this before the chaos. Get ready. Gentlemen. Get ready. Don’t act unless you’re needed. Wait, please. Daigo is negotiating in there. He will certainly succeed, so… We will follow their lead. Take positions here. – Chief, we truly can’t help? Chief? – Taira. #15. Huh? – You didn’t hear me? But 15 is more pressure than the suspect can take. And Daigo’s in there. And that’s why. Senior… we can still run together again. We… we could certainly go running and sweating on the field together. Shouldn’t that be good enough?! Daigo. Don’t move! I’m sorry… Daigo. Captain! Hose! Daigo! You okay?! You okay? Jun! Injured people here! So great! Ouch. Might’ve broken some bones. Fifteen kg. of pressure can certainly break some bones. Talk about overkill! It was the chief. He knew you’d cover that guy. That 15 kg. hoses would be just enough to save you both, he also knew. The burn isn’t serious. He’ll be fine. Why? Why didn’t you run away? Why’d you save me? Because… I’m a fireman. And I… believe in you. Senior will rise again someday. Senior… can rise again, right? Again… he can have a dream? I think, having a dream can be troublesome sometimes. If you have no dreams from the start, wouldn’t life be easier? You’re really something, Mr. Fireman. Causing such a ruckus. What’s your excuse? Huh? We all… waited so long for him to make his move, then you… – Hold on there. Without me, and the fire had spread, what would you do? Arrest or not, you’re not firemen. Can policemen control fires? Do you only know how to arrest criminals? Does the public’s safety mean absolutely nothing to you? Then what good are policemen? Then we don’t need you! – What are saying, you jerk?! Listen, when an arsonist is caught, his fires will stop. The matter will be solved. It’s only one burnt house, it doesn’t matter! How can you?! – YOU can arrest ME? Just now… what did you say? My little buddy went too far. Truly I apologize for that. It’s my fault for not teaching him well. But you said in a moment of anger, "One burnt house doesn’t matter. " Don’t disrespect firemen! We exist for only one reason. Protecting the public’s lives and assets. That is the mission of our 15,000 fire fighters. Whether big or small, we won’t let one dangerous fire burn! Arrest my little buddy for interrupting your work, if you wish. But… at that time, all of us from Megumi will oppose you. Chief. Guys. Let’s go. Chief… thank you so much. I… I wasn’t defending you. For my own sake, I couldn’t let you worsen the altercation. Ready for your punishment? Yes. Then… work hard. We’ve much to do. Your off-day is cancelled. Work hard, instead! Our job isn’t finished yet! Roll up the hoses! Confirm the fire’s out! Get to work, already! Yes! Let’s go, Daigo. Lost your off-day. – It’ll be another late meal, huh? Here… dry your head. You’ll catch a cold. Amakasu. Alright!
