My first cover of 2021: YOASOBI’s “Kaibutsu”, the opening theme from “BEASTARS” Season 2!
Since the BEASTARS anime debuted in Fall 2019, it has been one of my favorites because of it’s unparalleled CG quality and storytelling, emotional expression of the characters, and the beautiful soundtrack (the BEASTARS main theme is one of my all time favorites: https://open.spotify.com/track/65AwCdeFJe1ysdBgyjkYC0?si=oXEfkBPERpeSAjigmThSFg).
It was very exciting news when I heard that Season 2 has been announced. When it was further announced that YOASOBI would be performing the OP theme, I knew it was going to be great.
This is actually one of my easier arrangements… if you exclude the 16 bars starting from 1:03. In this insane section, I used excerpts from two famous classical pieces as the accompaniment. The first one is the descending motif from Liszt’s Sonata in B minor (https://youtu.be/qnPMXk_GaN8 – jump to 01:00); and the second one is the left hand “tutta forza” section from Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 (https://youtu.be/8u8Ho_3VOBs – jump to 06:36).
There are so many songs from this season that I wanted to cover. Hopefully I’ll have time to do them all 🙂
